Premium License Activation
Activate your license key to get SiteOrigin Premium updates in WordPress. Your license key is in your order confirmation email. You can also find it in your SiteOrigin dashboard: open Order History, click View Licenses, then click the key icon in the Key column.
Activate Your License
- Go to SiteOriginPremium License. The page is titled SiteOrigin Premium License. You can also click the License link under SiteOrigin Premium in the Plugins list.
- Paste your key into the License Key field. The field hides the key as you type.
- Click Save.
When the activation works, WordPress shows “Your license has been activated.” A check mark and “Your license key is valid and active.” show next to License Key. Below the field, “Your license key ends in” shows the last four characters of your key.
If the SiteOrigin menu is not in your admin menu, go to Plugins and check that SiteOrigin Premium is installed and active. The menu shows only for users who can manage options, such as administrators.
Until you save a key, the License page shows a notice that says SiteOrigin Premium is in development mode. This notice goes away when you save your key.
Sites That Count Toward Your Limit
Each license covers a number of live sites: 1 for Personal, 5 for Business, and unlimited for Developer. Local and staging sites do not count. SiteOrigin treats these addresses as local:
- localhost and private IP addresses
- Domains that end in .local, .test or .dev
- Development and staging subdomains, for example dev.example.com or staging.example.com
- Staging domains of common hosts, for example WP Engine, Kinsta, Flywheel, Cloudways and InstaWP
If your staging site uses another address and you want it excluded, email [email protected] with the details. For the full policy, see Licensing.
Move a License to Another Site
To free a site so you can use the key somewhere else, do one of these:
- On the old site, go to SiteOriginPremium License, clear the License Key field and click Save. If the license was active, WordPress shows “The license key field has been cleared and your license has been deactivated.”
- Deactivate the site from your SiteOrigin dashboard. See Managing Your Activated Sites.
License Notices
If SiteOrigin Premium cannot activate or check your key, it shows a notice in your WordPress admin. The notice starts with one of these sentences:
Your SiteOrigin Premium license has expired.
Your license has ended. The addons keep working, but updates and support stop. Renew the license to get them again. See Renewing an Existing License.
Your SiteOrigin Premium license was unable to be activated due to reaching its site activation limit.
Your license is active on as many sites as it allows. Deactivate a site you no longer use, or upgrade your license.
Your SiteOrigin Premium license appears to be invalid.
SiteOrigin does not know the key. Copy the key again from your dashboard, with no spaces before or after it.
There was a problem with activating your SiteOrigin Premium license key.
The activation did not complete. Check that the key is correct and click Save again. If the notice stays, contact support.
We couldn’t reach the SiteOrigin licensing server to check your license key.
Your site could not connect to siteorigin.com. See Connecting to SiteOrigin below.
Connecting to SiteOrigin
When you save your license key, your site sends a request to siteorigin.com to check it. If the request cannot get through, SiteOrigin Premium shows a notice on the License page. Your key was not checked, so the key itself is likely fine.
Most often, one of these holds back the request:
- Your hosting plan does not allow outbound requests from PHP. This is common on free and some shared plans.
- A firewall or security plugin on your site limits outbound requests.
- wp-config.php defines WP_HTTP_BLOCK_EXTERNAL without siteorigin.com in WP_ACCESSIBLE_HOSTS.
To allow the connection:
- Ask your host to allow outbound HTTPS requests from your site to siteorigin.com.
- If wp-config.php defines WP_HTTP_BLOCK_EXTERNAL, add siteorigin.com to WP_ACCESSIBLE_HOSTS.
- Temporarily deactivate security or firewall plugins that limit outbound requests.
- Go back to SiteOriginPremium License and click Save.
Plugin updates use the same connection. Until it works again, download the latest version from your SiteOrigin dashboard and upload it at PluginsAdd PluginUpload Plugin. See Updating SiteOrigin Premium.
If you need help, email [email protected] and tell us which host you use.
