History

The History dialog lists the changes you make in Page Builder. You can preview an earlier version of the layout and restore it. For example, if you delete a widget by mistake, you can restore the layout from before the delete.

Open the History

Click History in the Page Builder toolbar. The Page Builder Change History dialog opens. The History button shows in the Page Builder interface and in SiteOrigin Layout blocks, when Page Builder can preview the layout. The Layout Builder widget’s builder has no History button.

The list of entries is on the left. The newest entry is at the top:

  • Current is the layout as it is now.
  • Most changes you make add an entry, such as Widget deleted, Row added or Column resized. The entry holds the layout from before that change.
  • Original is at the bottom of the list. It shows after you make a change.

Each entry shows how long ago it happened. When you make the same kind of change again within 15 seconds of the last entry, Page Builder adds it to that entry and shows a count, such as Widget edited (3). It also groups two entries in a row that hold the same layout. A grouped entry holds the layout from before the first change in the group. Page Builder keeps up to 12 change entries, plus Current and Original.

Restore an Earlier Version

  1. Click History in the Page Builder toolbar.
  2. Click an entry in the list. For example, click Widget deleted to see the layout from before you deleted the widget.
  3. Check the layout in the preview on the right.
  4. Click Restore Version.
  5. Save the page, for example with Update.

When you restore an earlier change, Page Builder adds a Version restored entry. It holds the layout from before the restore. To undo the restore, select that entry and click Restore Version. This does not add another entry.

When the History Starts

The history starts when the Page Builder editor loads. Page Builder keeps it in the browser only, so it is not saved with the page. When you reload the page or leave the editor, the history starts again.

Each SiteOrigin Layout block in the Block Editor has its own history.
