Compatible Translation Plugins
2 min read Updated
Translation plugins let you publish your content in more than one language. These translation plugins work with SiteOrigin Page Builder:
WPGlobus isn’t compatible with Page Builder.
Polylang
Polylang works with Page Builder. You don’t need to change any Polylang settings.
When you add a translation, Polylang doesn’t copy the Page Builder layout to it, unless the translation is synchronized. See below. Build the layout in the translation, or copy the original layout from the Layouts dialog. Open the Clone: Pages tab for a page, or Clone: Posts for a post.
Page Builder copies the layout only between translations that you synchronize with Polylang Pro. A change to the layout in one synchronized translation then updates the others. The Custom Fields synchronization setting doesn’t change this.
WPML
WPML works with SiteOrigin Page Builder and the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle. This includes the SiteOrigin Layout block and the SiteOrigin widget blocks. WPML includes its own SiteOrigin Page Builder integration, so you don’t need extra configuration. If you’re new to WPML, start with its Getting Started guide.
WPML Advanced Translation Editor
The WPML Advanced Translation Editor lets you translate your site’s content in one place, automatically with credits or by hand. It shows which strings still need translation. Open it from WPMLTranslation Management. Text from Page Builder layouts and Widgets Bundle widgets is available for translation in the editor. See the WPML documentation for more.
Translate From the Page
You can start a translation while you edit a page. This works in the Page Builder interface, and in the Block Editor with a SiteOrigin Layout block or a SiteOrigin widget block.
- Find the Language box in the right sidebar.
- Click the plus icon next to the language you want.
The page opens in the Advanced Translation Editor. You can translate its strings there, including the Page Builder and Widgets Bundle strings. See the WPML documentation on translating with the plus icons.
Use a Different Design for a Translation
If a translation needs its own design, turn off the Advanced Translation Editor for that page:
- Find the Language box in the right sidebar.
- Under Translate this Document, click the WordPress Editor tab, next to the WPML Translation Editor tab.
- When WPML asks, choose Only this page.
- To start from the original design, select the Duplicate checkbox and click the Duplicate button. To start from a blank page, click the plus icon.
See the WPML documentation on using a different design for a translation.
