Vantage Free: 3 big but should-be-simple issues.

I have already spent 4 times more time than my cient is paying for so do mot want (or need) the premium version. I really hope you can help me! I am using classic editing.

1. I am trying to set up a simple site which does not need a home page slider. I have spent several hours following the theme and forum instructions. Clicking NONE does not do anything. I could use my image as a single slider (with no overlays) but it isn’t offered.

2. I have also tried all the snippets and responses in your forum to change the menu hover and link and active background colors. Nothing has worked there either. I simply want the color changed from the blue #248cc8 to purple: #6921c6

3. I have also tried to change the site font to a google font (Open Sans) and increase the size. Inspect shows these changes as crossed out.

Info:
The site is marlinateich.com Large image below the slider is all I want to show up om the home page.

I am using Additional CSS in the customizer; Custom CSS at the request of this theme, and the style sheet in my Child theme. None of these have worked for font issues although I was able to change the site background to dark and content entry colors to white. It’s now just the links and other popup colors that I need to change.

Thank you for any help you can give me. I’ve been at this for 7 hours today.

    Hi, I Work Here

Hi, thanks for posting your questions.

The slider settings may be out of sync; head over to AppearanceCustomizeTheme SettingsHome to check the slider value there.
    https://siteorigin.com/vantage-documentation/customizing-vantage/theme-settings/home-2/

The menu color settings are available at AppearanceCustomizeTheme DesignMenu.
    Page: Menu

Is Open Sans set at AppearanceCustomizeTheme DesignFontsBody Font?
    Page: Fonts

If correctly formatted and targetted, Custom CSS rules aren’t taking effect; it’s usually due to challenges relating to priority and specificity.

Thank you, Andrew! I don’t know why I didn’t see the theme design tab – that was so easy! I’m now a huge fan of SiteOrigin!

If I could bother you for one more – I’d really like my footer line to be a larger font and partly bolded, etc. What is there now is from finally tackling the footer block widget so I was able to get it centered and links working, but it will not affect the font-size or font-weight.

Also, I didn’t get any notification that there was a reply to my questions. I’m sure I checked that box. Just noticed the homepage fix a couple of days ago and today was reading various issues and found the reply to the rest.

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for your kind reply; I’m glad you’re progressing.

To adjust the bottom bar font size you can try the rule provided in the documentation: Page: CSS Snippets. The rule can be added to AppearanceCustom CSS or CustomizeAdditional CSS and edited as required.

Unfortunately, I’m not sure why notifications aren’t reaching you. Are the notification emails perhaps landing in Spam?

    Got this one!

I have just two more issues and the site is DONE. 1: I’ve tried to reduce the height (padding) of the footer with no success. #2: photo on Bio page does not reduce responsively – is there something I can do with that.
    Looked awful on the phone.

    Appreciate this great customer service!

    Hi, I Work Here

Hi, for the footer question, you can check Page: CSS Snippets.

The bio photos seem ok on my end.

    Thanks

  6. 1 year, 10 months ago jlevant

Thanks! The bio photo on the phone though looks fine on my iphone 14pro max but on other phones (client's husband and friends) doesn't look fine,
so I assumed it wasn't resolving correctly. I have no idea how to handle that. If you do, please let me know. I think I'm done with it!

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for the update. Are you working on the /home/bio/ page?

  8. 1 year, 10 months ago jlevant

    Not now.

    Hi, I Work Here

Which page is the photo issue on?

  10. 1 year, 10 months ago jlevant

    bio and also private events

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks. The images on both pages look normal on my phone. You can try temporarily switching to a default theme like Twenty Nineteen and re-testing to see if the issue is theme related.

  12. 1 year, 10 months ago jlevant

Thanks good idea. I think it's just what it is. Thought maybe it was because I 'inserted' the image rather than use a page builder which I really don't have the hang of. Let's forget it.

Related though, on the music page, Is there a way to designate the text between the cd cover and the QR code to get much smaller on phones?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Thanks for the update.

It’s a quick test to see if the image result is perhaps different with a default theme.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any easy method of making text responsive as requested. It could be done with a Custom CSS rule and a matching class in the HTML. That’s a bit beyond the scope we’re able to offer here on the forum.

  14. 1 year, 10 months ago jlevant

OK, thanks for all your help. You can close out the post.

ANDREW – PLEASE HELP – THE HOME PAGE SLIDE IS SUDDENLY BACK!!! CAN'T FIX!!

  17. 1 year, 10 months ago jlevant

*This is an emergency! * The client has posted her new website on facebook and when anyone clicks on it they see a slide that doesn't belong there.
"None" is still clicked in the customization pane. It wasn't showing last week. Suddenly it's back – has nothing to do with her side and all the world is seeing it. This is a horrible game changer!

    site: marlinateich.com

  18. 1 year, 10 months ago jlevant

I have deleted all the slider files but now the homepage full size image is where the slide was (still set as NONE) and the footer info is to the right of the image instead of in the footer.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi, thanks for the updates.

Unfortunately, our free support scope doesn’t guarantee same-day replies. Our premium support scope offers limited support at the weekend. Please consider a premium license for the level of support requested above.

The forum isn’t always able to remove email signatures; it’s formatting-dependent. It’s best to reply directly on the forum if your email signature falls through the gaps and is not automatically removed.

You can edit your home page via the Pages menu in WordPress and check that the Page Slider setting in the right column is set to None. It’s possible the setting in the Customizer and the page level setting are out of synchronization. Unfortunately, I’m unable to replicate the issue.

  20. 1 year, 10 months ago jlevant

I managed to get it working again. Many things has changed that I did not do: sidebar was ‘on’, footer widget f to it. I turned it off and but the widget block back under footer. But don’t understand how all these things happened since I finished the site last week and hadn’t touched it.

  21. 1 year, 8 months ago jlevant

Suddenly the home page slider has reappeared on marlinateich.com. My client is wondering why ‘there are ads on my page’. The Home page slider was set to None, but when I just looked it was back to ‘Demo Slider’. I changed it back to None but the slider is still showing. THIS IS REALLY A PROBLEM! Please help asap…

Despite being set to None, tFrefox’s inspector still shows ‘Demo Slider’.

    Hi, I Work Here

Hi, thanks for the update. I’m not sure what the cause might be. We haven’t been able to replicate the issue. Is the Slider set to None at Pages > Home Page > Page Slider in the right column and Appearance > Customize > Theme Settings > Home?

  23. 1 year, 8 months ago jlevant

I have written this in the forum but it is not showing up so I'm also writing this here. The problem from 2 months ago has suddenly reappeared. *The slider under Theme Settings/Home is set to NONE but the Demo Slider has reappeared and I cannot get rid of it*. My client is very unhappy about
'ads' showing on her page. How can I get this fixed once and for all?

Thanks you. Despite my having the free product this should not be happening and I hope can be dealt with speedily!

    Hi, I Work Here

There are two slider settings that sound like they might be out of sync.

There is a setting in the Customizer and a page-level setting. Are both set to None?

Is the Slider set to None at PagesHome PagePage Slider in the right column, and
    AppearanceCustomizeTheme SettingsHome?

  25. 1 year, 8 months ago jlevant

Please ignore my last post. I have now reset the slider back to NONE on the home page itself. Problem is again solved, but why does it suddenly change when I have not touched the site?

  26. 1 year, 8 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

I’m not sure what the cause might be. We haven’t been able to replicate the issue. The last function at the below URL can be used to manually disable the page slider. Please see the instructions at the top of the page. Thanks.

    Page: Advanced Customizations

I realized that the customization setting wasn’t working and remembered you said to check the page. That fixed it – but why would this happen – at least twice now?

    Hi, I Work Here

I’m not sure what the cause might be. We haven’t been able to replicate the issue on our testing server or locally. Please see my reply above.

    Hi, I Work Here

Hi Jessica. Are you receiving any of my replies?

  30. 1 year, 8 months ago jlevant

Yes, I answered your last one via email. But, again, as soon as I remembered that I had to check the actual page and changed that setting, you wouldn’t have been able to see the problem since that fixed it. Basically the Customizaton window, at least for the Home/Slider setting didn’t make a difference. So, all well now, and I do appreciate your prompt replies. I’ll try to remember to fix it on the page next time if there is a next time.

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for confirming. Please also see my reply above, which includes a link to documentation to disable the slider.

  32. 1 year, 8 months ago jlevant

I see that now (disable vantage page slider), but don’t know where to put it. Looks like it needs to go onto an actual template (which I will then copy to my Child theme.) Can you tell me where to put it?

  33. 1 year, 8 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

Did you perhaps have a chance to check the instructions at the top of the documentation page?

    Hi, I Work Here

The Code Snippets route, as discussed at the above link, is the route you should take if you aren’t using a child theme or custom plugin.

  35. 1 year, 8 months ago jlevant

That's what I get for triple-tasking. I have now added it to my Child
    Theme functions.php. Thanks again, Andrew.

  36. 1 year, 8 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

Glad to hear you’re making progress. You can confirm the function is working by setting the Page Slider to Demo and then checking to see if it displays.

  37. 1 year, 8 months ago jlevant

Thanks, just did and it does! Making websites is a very part-time part of my life, so I do have to do a lot of re-learning every time one comes my way.

    Have a great weekend.

Thanks for the update. I’m glad to hear the customization helps. I hope you have a great weekend, too.
