Clone: pages

I have a question regarding SiteOrigin > PageBuilder > Clone: Pages. Can I only clone pages if they have been built using PageBuilder? If so, is there any way I can convert an existing page to a PageBuilder layout and then clone it? I am also struggling with a site that seems to be somewhere between the classic and Gutenberg versions on WP, so that’s not helping matters.

Cheers

Lyndelle

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Lyndelle,

The SiteOrigin Page Builder cloning functionality is limited to SiteOrigin Page Builder (ie. Classic Editor) pages at this time. Unfortunately, there’s no reliable way to convert a Block Editor powered page to the Classic Editor without disabling the Block Editor completely.

There a few ways things that you could to achieve what you’re after:

Thanks Alex. I feel a bit stupid, because it’s a 55 page site and all but two of those pages were created with/or cloned from PageBuilder. For some unknown reason I clicked something in the settings that said to create new pages using the new editor and it all went pear-shaped.

I did end up doing something like copying and pasting the bits I wanted. It’s a messy solution, but fortunately I was just trying to figure something out (which didn’t work). I will try the other suggestions you have mentioned next time I need to do it. I am really not used to the new block editor and am just muddling my way through with that most of the time. Why do they keep changing things that work perfectly well the way they are and what is the meaning of life??

    Thanks again,

    Lyndelle

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Lyndelle,

The Block Editor is optional so if you would rather not use it, you can disable the Block Editor by installing a plugin called Classic Editor. Once installed, this will completely restore the classic editor and disable the Block Editor on your website.

Thanks Alex, I think I might have to. Do you think PageBuilder will eventually be tweaked to work with Block Editor?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Lyndelle,

Our plugins work with the Block Editor thanks to the SiteOrigin Layout and SiteOrigin Widget Blocks.

Due to how the Block Editor stores its data, it’s a very complicated process to allow for cloning of individual SieOrigin Layout Blocks without performance related issues. This is something we would like to do, but as a result of the performance concerns, it’s something that will take time to get right.

No problems. I was just wondering. I am glad to hear that it is on your agenda, but I am also glad to hear that you want to get it right. Don't rush it… the Classic Editor will be there for a while, no doubt.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Lyndelle,

The Classic Editor plugin will be supported until at least 2022, but to be completely honest, It’s unlikely WordPress will drop support for the Classic Editor due to how popular it is.

Please be sure to post another thread if you have any other questions.
