Page Builder Copy Paste

The recent Page Builder 2.5 update added a huge feature that I’m excited to share with you – the ability to copy and paste rows and widgets. It will significantly reduce the amount of time it takes you to build new Page Builder pages.

It’s always been our goal to make Page Builder fast, and we feel like the admin interface is the best place to give you this raw speed. Frontend editors are great! Page Builder has its own Live Editor, which we’re aiming to improve a lot over the next few releases, but the admin interface is where you can construct pages in absolute record time. This is especially true if you’re a seasoned Page Builder user.

Copy-paste stays true to our goal of the being the best admin editing interface.

You can now right-click anywhere in the Page Builder interface to bring up the contextual menu and then copy either the row or the widget you’re hovering over.

Next head on over to the page where you want to paste the row or widget and right click again. You’ll find the option to paste rows in the Row Action section, and widget pasting is in the Cell Actions section because you’re technically pasting the widget to a cell.

Because of how browsers handle clipboard access, we’re using browser storage for this feature. This means you can only copy and paste items within a single domain. But you can freely paste across different page, post types and even different WordPress sites on the same domain.

And that’s Copy Paste. I hope you enjoy the page building speed that this feature brings.

Looks great and will be trying but what would be really great is a pluin similar to fb posts where you put in a ulr and it auto fills with a brief description and photos ie. pull in third party content and populate your page now that i am sure many would find useful.I know i would be using that widget /plugin every single day any chance that may become possible soon ?

• 2 years, 6 months ago Greg Priday Hi, I Work Here

That’s a cool idea Nic. A very big idea, but definitely a very cool one.

• 2 years, 6 months ago Nic

Big idea but def worth having i am sure there are many people out there who would love to have it as an option i know it would make my life so much easier for adding items to my pages that can change hourly if late deal holidays etc ….I will watch this space you never know it may happen :)

Great news.

Super I love this new feature

5. 2 years, 6 months ago James Bularz

I was excited to hear about this feature, because I often want to copy over row or widget from one domain into dozens of others to use as a template. So I wasn’t quite as excited when I learned that that’s not possible however it’s still a nice feature Aldo of limited value to me. Is there any chance this maybe cross domain compatible in the future?

• 2 years, 6 months ago Greg Priday Hi, I Work Here

We’ll be looking at some options. For security reasons, browsers are a little bit sticky about how they allow you to work across domains, but there’s always a chance of a solution in the future.

Yet another reason why PageBuilder beats Visual Composer. I’m always singing SiteOrigin’s praises (for all of your products) and I just wish more theme developers would consider integrating SiteOrigin PageBuilder and just dump Visual Composer altogether. Anyway, can’t wait to use this new feature!

• 2 years, 6 months ago Greg Priday Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for your support Anne! I think another big benefit for theme developers is that SiteOrigin Page Builder is free, so they don’t need to worry about licensing when they integrate it into their themes, which isn’t always the case with commercial builders.

this will be awesome! Been wanting to do this for a while! This will help save me a ton of time in the future! Thanks for continuing to improve the theme!

9. 2 years, 6 months ago John

Awesome! I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. This is great for replicating stuff even on the same page instead of having to rebuild similar rows. SiteOrigin kick Visual Composer butt!

• 2 years, 6 months ago Greg Priday Hi, I Work Here

Thanks John. Yeah, saving time is the name of the game here – no matter how you do it.

Great feature! Thanks for adding this! I love the products you are offering. Page builder is awesome! I’ve been using it on every new site I build. This will definitely be useful. Thank you for everything you do!

Sorry but my english is from google A very similar function that I will like very much is to be able to duplicate a page.
I also use the Vantage theme if it would not be theme configuration … But this function was extraordinary, the page builder is already drag and drop and now adding copy and paste.
Sastifação in ultilazar your products still of free form with superior quality to other payments that give up to use.
Gratitude of Brazil

• 2 years, 6 months ago Greg Priday Hi, I Work Here

Hi Rafu! It’s actually already possible to duplicate pages. If you click on the Layouts button in Page Builder, you’ll see options down the side to either clone existing pages, or import/export pages as JSON files. You can use both of these features to duplicate entire pages.

Thank you!
Will try to utilize it soon.

16. 2 years, 6 months ago DenW

That definitely is a very cool and usefull feature to have! Excellent work!
As others have said, I would also like the option of being able to copy between domains. I’m currently in the process of re-building my site after something went wrong. For some strange reason when I copy a widget to the new site, I always get the same kind of widget. With all the data intact!
So no matter what widget I try to copy from source, the destination is always a SiteOrigin Price List widget.. strange, but it makes me hope it is not too hard to make this work for other widgets too.. :)

Again excellent work! And thanks very much!

This is great news guys. Wish you had brought this out 4 weeks ago – have just finished a site that would have been a dream to make with copy and paste rather than “long hand”. Keep up the good work!

20. 2 years, 6 months ago Greg

Hi Greg,

This is amazing !! So many times I found myself using the layouts feature to clone pages just to use an existing row, and then deleting everything around it. This new copy paste feature is awesome and will certainly speed up using page builder. Your products keep getting better :)

21. 2 years, 6 months ago miroslav

Super. thanks

22. 2 years, 6 months ago Manuel

It also works on subdomains? Copy rows means copy the content and the widget will not right?

Hi Greg,
Great addition to already wonderful widget Page Builder. I have several pages that provide the same information about teams: Logo, Name, address. team photo, calendar.
I used the same widget but I have to build every page separately. Now I just copy one page and replace information. It should look perfect.
I wonder how you can work so hard and for free?

That’s great lessons, pagebuider is an awesome plugin and using it so time saving. We maintain several travel websites for our clients and with pagebuider customizing according to client requirements is so easy . For example, adding seasonal packages and custom features. Thanks…

Hi Kathy
I have page builder installed and bundle long time ago and I'm using it. Is it any thing new? I will probably buy premium version but since license is for one yer only I wait till I need to do something on my website.
I have question; will I need any other widgets when I have Premium version installed. Right now I have widgets:
contact form 7
Responsive Photo Gallery,
Site Orgin CSS,
The events Calendar,
Black Studio Tiny MCE,
and few more

WordPress 4.8 running Vantage Premium
<https://vampgolf.com/wp-admin/themes.php> theme.

Running PHP version: 7.0.19

Appreciated your answer.

Thanks SiteOrigin team for a great copy and paste feature added to the best wordpress plugin web building repertoire. It makes web designing so much easier for those of us whom are not Pros at building pages, rows, widgets and more. I have had more support from your team then any of my other themes and or plugins. Hats off and many thanks to the team once again at SiteOrigin!

I’m very thankful for all the work you’ve done to improve Page Builder but I cannot wait for the day when I can actually drag and drop everything…something similar to what the Wix people offer. I know… it’s probably too much to ask, right? Again, THANKS.

52. 2 years, 3 months ago IJda Smits

I learn a lot from this and one of the things after a good look at the movie is that in my pagebuilder the addons tab is missing. I am a premium user so? I use Unwind.

How I copy any PHP Website Homepage. Thanks for sharing valuable info.

• 1 year, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon Hi, I Work Here

Hi Yogendra. Unfortunately, the functionality discussed here is only for content already in Page Builder by SiteOrigin. I don’t know of a way to copy a PHP based page into Page Builder at the moment. Sorry, wish I had more.

I am loving the Copy and Paste features;
As you can’t currently paste to another domain
What workflow would you recommend to duplicate the page to another domain?
Export-import page?
Do you have plugins that would be useful for this workflow?

• 1 year, 2 months ago Andrew Misplon Hi, I Work Here

Hi :) Try going to the page in question, in the Page Builder toolbar you’ll find a Layouts button, click that and then click Import/Export on the left. Once Import/Export is open, click the Download Layout bottom right. You can then import a layout using the same steps. Let me know how this goes and if it helps.

61. 1 year, 2 months ago Tushar Gangoly

Hi, Is it possible to paste into the Footer ?

• 1 year, 2 months ago Andrew Misplon Hi, I Work Here

Hi Tushar, thanks for posting. You can paste into the footer but would need to first insert a Layout Builder widget. In the Layout Builder, insert a row and then right click in that row to paste. Take a look at how the Layout Builder behaves on mobile as there can be challenges with theme styling. Hope that helps :)

62. 1 year, 2 months ago Federaik Ludikon

Copy and Paste and the overall context menù doesn’t seem to work into a layout builder widget. Are you planning to fix this? (on MacOS – Safari)

• 1 year, 2 months ago Andrew Misplon Hi, I Work Here

Hi Federaik. Thanks for posting. Widget copy/paste in Safari within the Layout Builder seems normal on our side. If you have a moment, please open a support thrad: https://siteorigin.com/thread and let us know once that’s done. Happy to help resolve the problem.

63. 1 year, 2 months ago Tushar Gangoly

I did this, but I am unable to change the content on the new page. I can see it visually, but I can not see it to edit it. It doesn’t show anything in the copied cell. It just does me the name of the widget. Can anyone help me edit my new page?

• 1 year, 14 days ago Andrew Misplon Hi, I Work Here

Hi Nikki

Thanks for posting. Can you perhaps open a support thread for us here: https://siteorigin.com/thread. If you let me know once that’s done, I’ll be happy to escalate your question for you. We can then assist and ask for login details if the need arises.
