Home>Support>Vantage theme sub menus for mobile device

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Line

    Thanks for reaching out.

When you view your mobile menu, each item that has sub-items will show an arrow to the right, if you click that right arrow you’ll get taken to a new pane with the sub items on it.

One way of increasing mobile usability might be to use each parent page, for example this is a parent page: http://93499-www.web.tornado-node.net/?page_id=34. You could use each parent page to display a short description of each sub page with an image and a link. So if users click on the parent page they still have a way to easily navigate to the sub pages.

I am totally green when it comes to using WordPress, I am sorry for that ;) … I have actually clicked the link to the parent page and not on the arrow it self, so that explains it, but I think it is a good idea to do what you suggest about the sub menu description on the parent page.

Can I ask you a question about something else? There is supposed to be a lot of small icons I can use in this theme. Is there a view of all of them somewhere?

And my front page is supposed to work as a news page. Is it possible to get a note icon or news icon or something in front of each post in the front page? It looks so boring whit only text … Or if you have any other suggestions?

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for the feedback. Here is an example of the kind of parent/overview page I was talking about: http://madagascarislandsafaris.co.za/madagascar-holidays/.

The Font Awesome library is available when choosing a page menu icon, and also in the Circle Icon widget. You can find these icons laid out at: http://fontawesome.io/icons/.

What you might consider for your home page is this. Turn Appearance > Home Page > ON. Insert a Post Loop widget. That’ll grab a feed of your latest posts, you can choose which template to use in the widget. Then you can insert other content around the Post Loop widget, like perhaps a services intro or something to that effect. It’s another idea.

    Hi, I Work Here

For a little extra help, you might find our Page Builder plugin documentation helpful:

Page: Getting Started With Page Builder

We also have a Widgets Bundle plugin that adds useful widgets:

    http://wordpress.org/plugins/so-widgets-bundle/

The documentation for the Widgets Bundle can be found here:

    Hello again Adrew

I don’t know if this is the right way to contact you again, but I was wondering if you could help me again?

I need to show the icons for YouTube and FaceBook and link to them, but where can I find them?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hey Line

There are many options out there for this. Perhaps try our new Social Icons widget, it’s part of our Widgets Bundle plugin:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/so-widgets-bundle/

With the plugin activated, go to Plugins > SiteOrigin Widgets and ensure the “Social media buttons widget” is turned on. Then go to Appearance > Widgets OR any page using Page Builder and insert the same widget.

    Hope you find that useful.

Thank you! I will try that! OMG you are so fast in answering!

So next question: In my menu I have the word Nyheter that means News. I want that to link to the home page to show the latest post. How do I fix that?

  8. 9 years, 6 months ago Line Bygland

And I need to remove the possibility to comment anywhere :D

  9. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

    Sure, no problem.

Under Settings > Discussion you can turn off comments for new posts/pages but for existing posts/pages you’ll need to edit the post/page, click Screen Options top right, check the Discussion checkbox then scroll down to below Visual editor and un-check Comment options.

    Our tutorial is here: https://siteorigin.com/basics/disable-wordpress-comments/

If you haven’t yet done so you can create a custom menu under Appearance > Menus. You can add Pages to the menu or Links, Links are just below Pages on the left when editing your menu. Once you’ve created a menu, assign it to the theme’s primary menu location and it will display there.

I am sorry, but I don’t understand how to make one of my main menu buttons redirect me to homepage when I click it.

    Hi, I Work Here

You could either add your home page to the main menu or add a link to the main menu and enter your url as the link.

Here is more info on managing custom menus:

Is it possible to ad a button with editable text in the Visual Editor for pages?

  13. 9 years, 6 months ago Line Bygland

I have one more question for you. Sorry for my nagging :o

Is it possible to post on different pages?

    And Thank You Andrew <3

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi :)

If you’re using Page Builder on a page then yes, you can insert a Button (PB) or newer SiteOrigin Button Widget to insert a button on each page. Using our products this is unfortunately not possible outside of Page Builder.

Not quite sure about your last question. Are you asking if you can list posts on different pages?

  15. 9 years, 6 months ago Line Bygland

I will try to explain … When I add new posts now, they show up on my homepage with the newest on top. Can I choose to makes posts to other pages without them showing on home page? I have 3 different domains (3 different products) that I try to incorporate in on single site noe, but all 3 products have their own news. New spare part lists in one product and a new timbershow date on another. Of course I could make all the posts in home page, but the list will be so long that nobody will bother to scroll to read them all. Of course I could fix that with different categories, but I don’t want the blog look ….

Did I manage to explain now? Not easy when it’s in english :D

    Hi, I Work Here

    Sure.

To get better control over your home page you can try using Appearance > Home Page ON. This would let you build a custom home page.

To create three different pages for your posts you can use Page Builder and the Post Loop (PB) widget. On each page where you want your posts displayed, click on the Page Builder tab, and insert a Post Loop widget. This will pull all of your posts. To pull only certain posts, try this:

    1. Go to Posts > Categories, click on a category and view the URL, in the URL you will see one number, that is the category ID.

    2. Go to your Post Loop widget, edit it, find the Additional field at the bottom of the widget and enter an argument like the following:

    cat=x

Where x is the ID of the category you want to display. In that way you can put your posts/news from different categories on different pages. You can also insert multiple categories by comma separating the ID’s:

    cat=x,y,z

    Hello again Andrew!

Have you ever had a problem with the creation of a link in the main menu? You can ad a custom link in stead of a page … Anyway. The option that appears when you click the custom link:

In one of the pages I am creating this option is unavailable. Nothing happens when you click on Custom Links …

It is in nowergian. Could the latest update have done something to it?

    Thanks again!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Line

Good to hear from you. Please go to Appearance > Menus and click Screen Options top right. Please make sure the Custom Links checkbox is enabled.

    Hope that helps.

  19. 9 years, 4 months ago Line Bygland

Thanks Adrew! But that checkbox is enabled … What to do? :o

  20. 9 years, 4 months ago Line Bygland

But I think there is something seriously wrong with the whole WP installation, because it also tells me to install a plugin I already installed :( I fear I have to reinstall WP on my web server :(

    Sigh …

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Line Bygland

Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look? You can create the account with the following email address:

    [email protected]

Just navigate to Users > Add New in your WordPress admin. Enter siteorigin for the username and [email protected] for the email address. Make sure you’ve selected Administrator for the role and enabled the “Send Password” field so we receive the details.

Once we’re finished taking a look, you can delete this account. We’ll let you know when to do that.

  22. 9 years, 4 months ago Line Bygland

Of course I can do that, but right now I feel a little that I'm sneaking WP help from you guys. I use SiteOrigin features (Page builder wm) but in this case I have used the Nirvana theme. So then it might be wrong to ask further help from you?

  23. 9 years, 4 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

No problem. What I’d do here so strip WordPress down to just the basics. De-activate all plugins. Switch to a default theme like Twenty Fifteen. Then re-check your menu. Is the problem still there? If not, slowly re-add your plugins and switch your theme back. After each change, re-check the menu. Hopefully that way you can figure out the problem.

If you really ment that you would like to help, I am happy to create an user for you, but I will try what you said first. I thought I maybe asked to much? ;-)

  25. 9 years, 4 months ago Line Bygland

Well. I tried to deactivate the plugins and I found the plugin that made the mess: Titan Framework!! I think I downloaded it because of a plugin with your name on it; Ultimate Addons for SiteOrigin but I am not sure anymore. I removed them :D Thank you! You never fail me and you will definitely hear from me again I am afraid :* :o

This time I send you a hug!

  26. 9 years, 4 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

Awesome! Glad to hear you found the problem.

Our new Widgets Bundle plugin includes an API that allows other developers to use it as a foundation to build their own widgets. Ultimate Addons isn’t ours but is built on the Widgets Bundle API. It’s open to anyone. The good news is that I was chatting to the developer this week about another challenge and he mentioned the upcoming update will strip out Titan Framework.

    Thanks for the feedback :)

    That's great! A win-win situation then ;-)

Again: Thanks a lot! You're my hero!

    Hi, I Work Here

For sure, glad we could help.

    Cheers for now :)

Hello again Andrew. I have a new question for you!

Do you know if there is any pre-built page templates that is possible to use via word-press?

  30. 9 years, 1 month ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

Once you’ve upgraded to Page Builder 2.2, on any page click Prebuilt Layouts > Layout Directory. It’s a really soft launch for now because we don’t have enough layouts ready just yet. Anyway, check it out, lots more to come.

  31. 9 years, 1 month ago Line Bygland

    Oh ok! Thank you!

This time I'm sending you a hug!

    Hi, I Work Here
