Is it possible in the template used for the Vantage sidebar to show only the top level category?
I have main categories (parents) and a number of sub-categories but would like to show only the top-level (parent) in the side-bar.
A specific example from my blog page at http://www.canda-international.com/blog-2/:
There is a parent category Events and a sub category Tappi and yet both are showing in the category list.
Would value some help.
Thanks, Nick
Hi Nick
Thanks for reaching out. The core Categories widget unfortunately doesn’t have the functionality you’re looking for. I’d recommend looking for a plugin that can add a new category widget to help with this:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/search.php?q=categories+widget
I unfortunately haven’t used one.
I just checked this widget: https://wordpress.org/plugins/jquery-categories-list/ it can collapse your categories under the parent, you then expose the children by clicking on the parent. If that something you’d like then give it a try.
Hi Andrew
I have finally managed to get the time to come back to this – thank you for your help. The question I have now is how to use the suggested widget with the Vantage Premium template. I have activated the jQuery Categories List Widget but have no idea how to get it to override the current sidebar/categories. Could you suggest how I do this?
Thank you.
Nick
Sure. Go to Appearance > Widgets, open the Categories widget in the Sidebar widget area and delete it. Then add your new widget.
Hope that helps.
That’s fantastic …. works well. Thank you very much for your help.
Nick
Awesome :) Glad to hear that did the trick.
All the best.
