Vantage doesn’t display full-width with Jetpack

By konblog, 7 years ago. Last reply by Alex S, 7 years ago.

Greetings!

Since installing the Jetpack plugin my website doesn’t display in full-width. All the settings are set to full-width and once I disable the Jetpack plugin the full-width option works again.

I have played a bit with the Jetpack options and have disabled the Photon option of optimizing images, galleries, etc. In fact I have disabled all the Jetpack options that deal with image optimization, thinking that they are to blame. But still my site doesn’t display in full-width. The only way to achieve this is to disable the plugin altogether.

Is there any solution for this? Is this a bug?

Many thanks!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Konblog,

    I can’t seem to replicate this issue. Does this issue occur if you temporarily change to a default WordPress theme? If so, does this issue occur if only SiteOrigin Page Builder and jetpack are enabled?

    Do you have a public URL where we can take a look at what’s going on?

    Thanks for the reply.

    This happens only with the Vantage theme.

    My site is: http://thedialectical.com

    With Jetpack enabled I can only get it to work full width if I add the following custom CSS (which I found on another thread):

    /* Vantage true full width adjustment */

    body.responsive.layout-full #page-wrapper .full-container {
    max-width: 100% !important;
    }

    PS. I forgot to mention I get the same problem with reduced width if I activate the Yoast plugin. For the time being I have removed the custom CSS code so you can have a look at the problem. To be honest I don’t mind having the above custom CSS added as long as it does’t create any problems with future updates.

    Hi Kon,

    Okay, so I’m unsure why it’s displaying as full width when Jetpack is disabled. To clarify, how it’s displaying right now is how it’s meant to be as the full width layout has a content container (meaning, the content isn’t full width, only the layout is). Can you temporarily disable Jetpack so I can inspect what’s going on?

    Ok, this is embarrassing, I disabled the Jetpack plugin and for the first time ever the size remains shrunk. So for the time being I have re-enabled it since it doesn’t seem to make any difference anymore.

    I have included the custom css code that I mentioned above in this thread in order to make it full-width again. If you could take a look now, with the custom css, it is exactly how I understand full-width to work, i.e. full-screen width.

    These were the steps I had taken initially when full-width worked OK: I had chosen full-width layout from the customizer, then from my static home page I had selected the default template and then from the options below full-width with sidebar. Everything was fine until I installed a couple of plugins namely Jetpack and Yoast.

    Could I please ask three questions?

    1. Could it be that Jetpack has left some traces in my code so that, even if I disable it now, the width is not full?

    2. If I want to clean up my theme code (which I can’t do manually) is it safe to re-install the theme? I am not using a child theme, but I have saved all my css code for future reference. Btw, the only custom css I have added is to change the the sidebar font size and to force full-width.

    2. Since the custom css code flexes my width full-screen as I want it to be, is it safe to have it there or do you think future updates to the theme might break it?

    Many thanks for your time!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Konblog,

    then from my static home page I had selected the default template and then from the options below full-width with sidebar.

    Ah, that explains it then. You adjusted the Page Settings and set the Page Layout to Full Width. This setting removes the content container and allows for it to be completely full width. This is effectively the same as applying the CSS>

    1. No. This is very unlikely.

    2. That’s perfectly safe. Your content is stored independently to your theme and your theme settings are stored separately to the theme files so you reinstall the theme at any time without fear.

    3. Absolutely safe as it’s effectively the same CSS (different selector, same outcome).
