Sub-menu is cut of

Hi,

I have a submenu that is probably to long, so it doesn’t show the entire submenu. It is cut of. You can see this here. When I click on “exposanten” I can’t see the whole list (it stops at Sanne Neuteboom, but there a some more to show).

When on tablet or phone, I see even less!

How can I fix this?

Regards,
Simone

    Hi Simone

    Thanks for the wait.

Please, give our pre-release version a try:

    Here is how to install:

Thanks for the login info. As long as you haven’t edited any theme files at a code level, either via Appearance > Editor or FTP, then you definitely won’t lose any work. If you want to be extra careful, go to PluginsAdd New and install Duplicator. Make a Duplicator backup.

Installing the update is really quick. Switch to any other theme from AppearanceThemes. Next, delete North and install the update from AppearanceThemesAdd NewUpload ThemeActivate.

I just used the North theme and used CSS editor to modify things. So no child-theme or code-level things.
The thing is that I’ve put a lot of work in this site, so I want to be extra safe.

  5. Andrew Misplon Staff 9 years, 10 months ago

For sure. Being extra safe would be making a Duplicator backup of the site before proceeding.

    Oke, I’ve done it.

The menu appears in tablet mode, super.

But still cut-off menu’s, so no scrolling possible to view all the menu’s. This is on laptop, tablet and mobile.

If we released an update to North, WordPress would essentially do exactly what you’ll be doing in this update. It would completely overwrite the “north” folder with the new version.

Here are the docs for Duplicator: http://lifeinthegrid.com/support/knowledgebase.php?article=3.

We’ve written at the same time, my test-results are above your last comment.

Refreshed the page and now I can scroll on mobile and tablet!!!!!

BUT still not on the pc.

    Huge improvement already!

Super, thanks for your feedback. I’ll log a bug report for our developer now.

  12. Simone Goudzwaard 9 years, 10 months ago

can you see what I mean on the pc?

its just the other way around I think…
in the mobile setting I can scroll, but on the pc it is cut off…

  15. Simone Goudzwaard 9 years, 10 months ago

Also: think about one-pagers. Now the mobile menu stays in place after navigating to a certain point in the page. On normal websites (not a one-pager), the menu disappears after navigating to a new page.

See the difference here and here

Andrew, what is the status of the upcoming update?

  17. Simone Goudzwaard 9 years, 10 months ago

Does anybody know when the update will come? I have a few websites that are ready to put online.

I’ve had the update of the pre-release version. Still the menu on the PC is not scrollable. Perhaps an idea that one has to click on the menu to see the submenu. That also means that on an iPad (in landscape mode) you can use the normal (not responsive) menu. Now you can’t see the submenu’s on the iPad when responsive mode is set on 700px.

    Another question regarding sub-menu’s:
Is it possible to make the submenu a row below the menu? Instead of a column below the menu?

    Hi Simone

Thanks for all of your feedback.

I don’t have an update on the next update, sorry. I’ve logged all of your feedback and requests. I’ll ask the team to get everything released as soon as they’re able. I completely understand you need this done ASAP. We’re a small team working on a lot of ongoing projects, unfortunately, I can’t direct programming resources right away.

    Another question regarding sub-menu’s:
Is it possible to make the submenu a row below the menu? Instead of a column below the menu?

Perhaps, it’s not a bad idea. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely we’ll be able to roll this one out soon. We’d need to see if there was a wider demand for something like this. It’s always a tough balance between making a theme flexible and adding too many options.

Andrew, the pre-release I’ve got, can I use that one? Or should I go back to the normal North? How does that work?
Because the major issues are gone in the pre-release. With that one I can put some sites live.

  20. Simone Goudzwaard 9 years, 10 months ago

Update: the scrolling doesn’t work any more. I’m a little bit disappointed.

It’s also not very convenient that the submenu’s are already shown in the responsive menu. That makes the menu very long.

Should I change to another theme?

  21. Andrew Misplon Staff 9 years, 10 months ago

You can use the pre-release until the next version comes up. There shouldn’t be any issues with that.

I’ve just tested the mobile menu (pre-release) and the scrolling seems to work fine. Did you mean the mobile menu scrolling isn’t working?

  22. Simone Goudzwaard 9 years, 10 months ago

Yep, that’s what I meant. I’ve got a new Nexus 6something and the sccrolling does not work. Have a look on the pre-release North site:

The scrolling stops and the then nothing but flickering when I try to scroll.

  23. Simone Goudzwaard 9 years, 10 months ago

On a tablet the scrolling does work by the way.

  24. Simone Goudzwaard 9 years, 10 months ago

Will the pre-release be updated when the final thing comes, or are the steps reversed? Will I lose my theme-settings?

Thanks. I’ll reply here: Thread: one-pager trouble.
