Slider set to Full Screen obscures sidebar rather than pushing it down

Hi all,

I’m using (child of) Vantage, and we want a large custom full-width header/slide on each page.

I’ve done this using PageBuilder by adding a row and slider at the top of each page that is set to full-width.

This is working fine for the main body of the page (it’s pushed down appropriately) but it doesn’t push down the sidebar, and thus obscures it.

Here’s an example:

http://urbanseededucation.org/child-safety-policy/
You can see that the sidebar with posts is up under the image.

Any advice on how to get the sidebar to move down too? Or am I doing this wrong?

Cheers,
Mike

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mike,

I’d like to help you with this, but unfortunately, this is beyond the scope of the support we’re able to offer on our free forums. There is a fair amount of custom work involved.

We do offer this level of support to our premium users, so if you’d like to upgrade to SiteOrigin Premium, then I can help you over email support.

If you’d prefer not to upgrade to SiteOrigin Premium, then you can hire a WordPress developer from Codeable. They’ll charge you an hourly rate for any work done.

Hi Alex, I understand what you are saying, but why does this require custom work?

Surely if the theme supports Page Builder, it should correctly support PageBuilder’s widgets?

This just seems like a bug in the theme or in PageBuilder.

If you can explain why it requires custom work, I’ll happily upgrade.

    Cheers,
    Mike

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mike,

This issue isn’t as a result of the theme itself. Basically, full width stretched row layouts break the theme container and this is why the sidebar is being covered (it’s impossible to account for the sidebar in CSS – there’s no real logic in CSS so you can’t check if something is being covered). Your only option to avoid this is to either not use a full width row layout (at least not that high up on the page) or to move the sidebar down (this will require custom CSS).

We’re unable to provide CSS to free users unless there’s a high chance it’ll help other users. This issue rarely comes up so it’s unlikely this will help many people. I know it’s not ideal but we must be selective in the CSS we provide to ensure we spend time helping as many people as possible at once.

Thanks for your reply, Alex, understand your position, and that makes sense, it’s the limitation of the theme itself.

Is there another way to achieve what I’m trying to do without breaking the theme container? This has taken a couple of hacks as it is (i.e. to have an image right across the page on each page of the site)

Or should I just look for a different theme?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Michael,

No, you misunderstood. This is not a theme issue. It’s as a result of how the Full Width Stretched Layout works in SiteOrigin Page Builder and it works like that for the best overall compatibility with themes. It has only one real issue and that’s it sometimes cover the sidebar as there’s no real reliable way of knowing when this happens.

Vantage has direct integration with Meta Slider (it’s written with the general goal of adding it to the home page but it’s possible on any page) so you could use that to make a full width slider/heading on each page.

Thanks for clarifying Alex, I’ll convert the pages I want a sidebar on to use MetaSlider. Appreciate your help.
