All of a sudden when I add a site origin editor row to my wordpress page content area.
I cannot get it into edit mode to allow me to add text.
This just started happening as it was working yesterday. Not sure what is going on.
I tried this in multiple browsers and still no luck.
I cannot edit existing SiteOrigin editor fields, nor can I create new ones.
Thank you for researching this for me and looking forward to hearing back from you.
Damien
Hi Damienfps,
This sounds like it could be a plugin conflict issue. Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.
If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.
Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.
If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.
Thank you for the reply. I was afraid to disable the plugin because I have tons of live pages currently using the site origin editor. They are formatted with several rows of text on each page. If I disable the plugin, will I lose all that info and formatting?
Hi Damienfps,
Plugin developers understand that there are very legitimate instances where the user may need to disable the plugin so it’s very unlikely you’ll lose any data as a result of losing the plugin. As long as you do a backup, it’s okay if that happens as you can just restore the backup if things go wrong.
Thank you for the reply, I did disable and then enable the plugin, but still the same behavior happens. I cannot edit anything still in the editor and I have tons of pages created with this app. Any guidance to correct this would be a life saver.
Looking forward to your reply.
Hi Damien
Please, can you confirm that you tested the SiteOrigin Editor with all non-SiteOrigin plugins deactivated? I ask because it sounds like you might have deactivated and then reactivated all other plugins. Perhaps that’s just a misunderstanding from the wording used. Did you check the Editor widget with all plugins not authored by SiteOrigin deactivated? Thanks.
Hello and thank you for the reply.
Prior I had only deactivated and reactivated the Site Origin plugins to troubleshoot.
However this morning I deactivated every other plugin and left the
SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle and Page Builder by SiteOrigin plugins enabled.
I tried to edit a SiteOrigin Editor field for one of my pages and after making the changes to the text and submitting the change. It never sticks.
Instead I get the same text on the page and there is a message above the field stating:
"There is a newer version of this widget's content available. buttons for
Restore or Dismiss
Clicking Restore will replace the current widget contents. You can revert by refreshing the page before updating."
However no matter what I press and submit changes for using these buttons.
The text update never sticks and makes the field not editable.
Screenshots attached.
Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look? You can create the account with the following email address:
Private Snippet
Just navigate to UsersAdd New in your WordPress admin. Enter siteorigin for the username and Private Snippet for the email address. Make sure you’ve selected Administrator for the role and enabled the Send Password field so we receive the details.
Once we’re finished taking a look, you can delete this account. We’ll let you know when to do that.
Andrew,
Sure thing I can do it right now.
I tried submitting: Private Snippet for the email address and it would not let me.
What should be the actual email address value?
I am standing by.
Lol, needed to login and see it.
I just did and got your user account created.
I am standing by.

Thanks. Please, can you give us an example of a page using Page Builder by SiteOrigin.

Andrew,
Sure thing, look at page named 'California'.
Thanks. Here is what I can see on that page in each widget: https://imgur.com/a/z7PQiDs. Is that not what you’re seeing?
Yes, that is what I see. However try to edit one of those fields by adding or editing some text.
Then save the change, update it, and check the site here for the change:
http://www.fpspi.org/california/
You will see that the change never happens.
Is it only with editing the existing text? I just added a line that reads Demo text.
Andrew,
None of my updates have worked. I have tried editing and adding text, but it never saves the text.
What browser are you using when working in the admin?
I will try it again to see.
I’m using Chrome. Perhaps try logging out and logging back in again.
Ok standby and I will try it in Chrome. I have been working in Firefox.
I just tried it again in firefox by going to the field and click on edit.
Then adding text and submitting.
The text never sticks.
Ok I just tried it in Chrome and I get the same result.
Screenshot attached.
So here is what I am doing, lets make sure we are doing the same things.
I go to the page and hover over the field I want to edit.
I then click the small edit link
I type in the text I want into the editor view and press Done.
Then I press Update and view the page.
Is this what you are doing?
Thanks for the update. Those are the same steps I’m following. Please, try logging out and logging back in with the account you created for me and then try again. The login username and password are a little bit up this thread as a private reply.
Ok will do, standby.
Strange, but logged in as the user I created for you and it works.
Wonder why?
I have been using the same admin user since the creation of the site with no problems up until recently when I reported this to you all.
Any ideas?
Awesome, that’s great progress.
There isn’t one distinct answer to this if you Google the issue. Some users suggest doing a plugin conflict test. Others have had issues with members/roles plugins. If you have another admin account, like you do now, one idea might be to switch your role Subscriber and then back Admin and see if that helps. You could also delete your account and create a new one. That might raise an issue with who is assigned as the public author if you have a blog though. When you delete an account you will need to choose which author to assign the content to. You could re-assign the author to posts and pages by doing a bulk edit once the account is solved.
Ok cool, gotcha. Thank you very much for your time exploring this with me.
I will just try and create a new user in the future for this.
For now I am going to use the one I created for you and get these changes done. ;-)
Thanks again. Have a great and positive day. ;-)
That’s the easiest option for the moment. Glad we could help. All the best :)
