Post Carousel Widget not working as intended

Hi there,

I’m having an issue with the Post Carousel Widget, which you may be able to help me with.

I’ve set the “Posts per load” parameter as 3.

However, I’m still able to scroll all the posts on a desktop or a laptop.

When I do the same on iPhone, I only see the 3 most recent posts even if I scroll. This is what I intend to achieve.

This issue has started happening over the past two weeks or so. Prior to that, only the three most recent posts used to be visible on any device.

It would be great if you could help me in rectifying the issue.

Thanks and kind regards.

    Hi, thanks for reaching out

    The Post Carousel uses Ajax to load posts as you click or swipe. When you click or swipe next, posts are loaded in the background. The default Posts per load is 15. There is a performance aspect to this setting.

    This setting used to be called Posts per page, we recently updated the label to try and describe the setting a bit better, we’ll add a description soon to further clarify.

    There were several releases in which, unbeknown to us, the Posts per page setting had a bug and was acting as a maximum post setting as described in your thread.

    For the moment, if you want to apply a post count limit you’d need to roll back to a previous version. If you rollback to say 1.16.1 I know the issue was present meaning the max post count will be applied. https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-rollback/ is the easiest way to do rollbacks.

    I’ll chat with the team and try to come up with a solution to apply a max post limit and then get back to you.

    Hi Andrew,

    Thanks for your response; much appreciated.

    Just wondering if you have a timeframe in which the issue can be fixed.

    I’m a bit reluctant to roll back to a previous version as you would appreciate this is not considered a good website management practice and could result in version conflicts.

    Thanks and kind regards.

    Hi, I think we can assist by adding a filter. You could then use a plugin like Code Snippets or a child theme functions file to target the filter and set a max post limit. We’ll send you a pre-release version and instructions once this is ready, hopefully, this week.

    Hi Andrew,

    I hope you’re doing well and had a nice weekend.

    Just wondering if there is any progress with the Post Carousel issue.

    I’m still having the issue, and look forward to a swift resolution to the problem.

    Thanks and kind regards.

    Hi, thanks for the follow-up. I’ve assigned the issue to Alex. I followed up with him at the end of last week. We’ve had our hands full with updates required for WordPress 5.6. I’m sure Alex will get to the issue soon. The issue will be updated as soon as work is submitted https://github.com/siteorigin/so-widgets-bundle/issues/1210.

    Hi. Please, find a beta release of the Widgets Bundle here. Once the ZIP file is on your desktop you can install it from PluginsAdd NewUpload Plugin. If you aren’t using a child theme the easiest way to add the below filter is via the plugin Code Snippets. With Code Snippets activated, go to Snippets > Add New, name the snippet as you’d like and insert into the Code field:

    add_filter( 'siteorigin_widgets_post_carousel_post_limit', function( $limit ) {
    	return 3;
    } );

    Select the option to run the snippet on the site front-end. Save and activate. The value 3 can be adjusted as required.

    Hi Andrew,

    Thanks for sending me the beta release; much appreciated.

    Any ideas when the proper release will happen so that one can just update the plugin in WordPress?

    Thanks and kind regards.

    Hi, sure no problem. The next release will be out, hopefully, in the next couple of weeks. Unfortunately, at the moment, we don’t have a more detailed timeline. Thanks for reaching out.

    Hi Aaron,

    Thanks for the update; much appreciated. Could you kindly confirm if the above filter will be included in the next release?

    Thanks and kind regards.

    Hi. The above filter will be included. You can view the pull request here https://github.com/siteorigin/so-widgets-bundle/pull/1220. The PR will be updated once it has been reviewed and merged. Thanks :)
