Permalink spurious change when using Post Carousel Widget

Hello,

I’m encountering a strange issue with permalink. As soon as I’m using the Post Carousel Widget, the permalink of the page changes to a new version of an old post, totally unrelated.

Steps to reproduce the issue:

1. I create a new page, named Test, a permalink ‘test’ is associated, I can edit/save this page as much as I want without any issue, using the Page Builder.

2. As soon as I add the Post Carousel Widget, then, when updating the page, the permalink changes to the permalink of an old post (with a trailing -2), so for example, permalink test => an-old-post-2

3. If I rename the permalink to test, save the page, then it’s fine until I re-edit it.

4. If I remove the Post Carousel Widget, rename the permalink -> the problem disappear.

It’s like if the carousel plugin was somehow “sending” the slug from articles loop as page permalink when saving.

I’m using WP 5.8.2, and up-to-date SiteOrigin plugins and SiteOrigin-Corp theme.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Gaialabs,

I’ve run some tests and I’m having trouble replicating this. Are you using the Block Editor, or the Classic Editor?

Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

    Kind regards,
    Alex

    Hi Alex,

Thanks for your support. As this website is in production, I can’t perform such tests. And as I found out the origin of the problem, I can work around.

If you can’t reproduce, it probably means that this is an issue specific to this installation. I wanted to know if this occur for someone else, to avoid doing the tests you suggest. However, it looks like I will need to do it. I will copy the website/database and do these checks, as soon as I get some time.

    Thank you,
    Alexis

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Alexis,

That’s completely understandable. We haven’t received any other reports of this happening, I’m having a hard time replicating it by following your instructions. Unfortunately, as you said, this does point at it likely being a general conflict/issue.
Let me know how you go.

    Kind regards,
    Alex
