PageBuilder Site Backup Question

I get a little concerned about PageBuilder site backup procedures, when I read articles below:

siteorigin widgets plugins trouble with website backup

I’d like to move my website that’s using Page Builder, what’s the best method?

I don’t seem to fully understand what this implies.

Does this mean, that I cannot expect to be able to backup site via FTP and phpMyAdmin, and then later restore again via FTP and phpMyAdmin – and then expect it to work properly?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Hans

Using Duplicator plugin for backups would be the safest method. I don’t believe we’re seeing any database restoration issues, only when Page Builder content is moved to another server. So you should be fine with regular FTP and database backup procedures.

    Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the feedback, but I still don’t really get, what the issue is, and what to expect.

I run several sites, and are planning on using PB and Vantage for future customer. I use the UpdraftPlus backup to run scheduled backups of all of my sites.

So what you are saying is, that I cannot expect to be able to backup/restore via UpdraftPlus ?

    Hi, I Work Here

We have several users running that service but haven’t had any feedback yet. Would you perhaps mind running a test when you have time and seeing how it goes using their setup?

Yep I will test UpdraftPlus next week.

Meanwhile I have just made a manual test. Moving PB + Vantage installation to new server and new domain, using FTP and phpMyAdmin. Manually changing data in wp-config.php and database options table.

It seems to work fine, so I would like to know what potential problems I am supposed to look for ?

    Hi, I Work Here

Did your Page Builder content successfully migrate? Can you go in and edit those layouts now? Was the layout structure maintained?

Yes apparently it did, and I am able to edit existing widgets, and ad new ones.

So far the only problem seems to be when choosing the Prebuilt Layouts, only 3 of the existing pages are shown.

    Hi, I Work Here

    That’s awesome.

I’m not sure why only three of your pages are showing up though.

Ahhh, now I get it :-)

The 3 pages that shows up, are the only ones where PB are in use, the other ones are regular WP ones.

So apparently everything works fine, I will do some more testing next week, now it’s time to have en weekend break.

So far, tanks for all of your assistance, and have a nice weekend!

    Hi, I Work Here

Really glad to hear the migration went well.

Yes, sorry for not mentioning. Page Builder will only offer to clone it’s own layouts.

Okay, so far everything looks fine with UpDraftPlus backup.

I have tried several backup/restore attempts, on 2 different domains, and 2 different ISP’s.

I have tried UpDraftPlus backup to Dropbox, and then a restore from dropbox, so far everything works beautifully, and PageBuilder content are recreated perfectly.

    Very encouraging :-)

Will do some more testing though.
