Page builder not working after reverted to text editor

Hi,

I foolishly switched to visual editor mode from page builder and now I can’t get page builder to work again. It appears to load initially, but the dropdown menu on the side doesnt work, and I cannot even save, just have to go back to the previous page. I am sure I have moved back and forth between text editor and page builder in the past, and have not added any new plugins or updated anything…

How do I get page builder back? Please help!

Thanks

Adrienne

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Adrienne

Really sorry for the hassle. You aren’t wrong, previously you could do this. We have fixed the issue: https://github.com/siteorigin/siteorigin-panels/issues/485. It will be included in our next release of Page Builder which should be pushed in the next day or less.

And now broken again! Sorry to be a pain, but why is this happening? I deactivated and reactivated the plugin (twice). The first time it was working and then the whole thing crashed when I was in the middle of editing content in page builder, and now it doesn’t work again anywhere on the site. Same issue as before. I hadnt even navigated away from page builder this time. This is very frustrating, especially as I have a deadline on the blog page. Please help!

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Adrienne,

I’m not too sure what’s going wrong.

To clarify, what sort of edits are you doing exactly? I ask as certain edits could very well invalidate your data which will prevent us from being able to read it correctly.

The next time it crashes, could you please send me the contents of your console? Please refer to this guide on how to access your browser console.

    Hi Alex,

Thanks for your quick response! Here is a segment o the contents of my console as you requested… page builder is still not working. I was trying to add photo content to a page of my site. I have never had a problem with this before, only in the last few days.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Adrienne

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Adrienne,

Thanks. There’s an issue with 5jquery.js (whatever is adding that I’m not too sure). Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

    Hi Alex,

I am using the Juniper WordPress theme. Firstly I have to tell you I am far from an expert with WordPress or with any kind of HTML or javascript code etc!

So… I firstly cleared my browser cache (chrome) and then disabled all the plugins on the site except for Beaver Builder Lite and Beaver Builder Booster, then reloaded the page I was editing and managed to do a few basic edits with Page Builder, just editing text and adding a few photos. Hooray!! I thought! So, I saved and exited the page, but of course, couldnt see the edits so went back in to publish changes and found Page Builder was no longer working, same as before.

The really strange thing to my uneducated mind, is that I have an identical test site, where page builder is working perfectly. The problem only started occurring when I had switched to text edit and then tried to go back to page builder on my live site. I have not tried to go into text edit on my test site in case the same thing happens.

The latest error messages on the javascript console are multiple repeats of this:

Beaver Builder caught the following JavaScript error. If Beaver Builder is not functioning as expected the cause is most likely this error. Please help us by disabling all plugins and testing Beaver Builder while reactivating each to determine if the issue is related to a third party plugin.
fl-builder.min.js?ver=1.10.9.2:3 “Uncaught Error: Syntax error, unrecognized expression: unsupported pseudo: hover” on line 1 of http://soulwaterproductions.com/wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery.js?ver=1.12.4.

    at a.fn.init.n.fn.init (jquery.js?ver=1.12.4:1)
    fl-builder.min.js?ver=1.10.9.2:3 ************************************************************************

I have also cleared the cache in page builder which seems to have no effect.

Since none of the other plugins are active throughout this process I am a bit lost.

    Any suggestions much appreciated.

    Cheers!
    Adrienne

    Hi Alex,

Well, after much (I mean much!) trial and error, I think I have found a solution to the problem (although not the cause – perhaps you can throw some more light on that). I found that after deactivating all the plugins and also all the modules on page builder that I was not immediately using, I was still having the same problem. So I cleared the cache on the browser (chrome) and it worked again, but only for one editing session. As soon as I saved and navigated away from the page I was editing the problem was back. So I cleared the browser cache again, and it worked again. So basically, I would need to clear the cache, close chrome, open it again, log into my admin page again after every round of editing to continue using page builder.

So I tried opening it in Safari – which worked. And worked multiple times (although after about 10 times of opening and closing the page the same problem reoccurred so I needed to go through the whole clear history process again – however once out of ten times better than every time). I also added back the plugins one by one and they all seem to work fine, as do all of the page builder modules.

So the issue seems to be with the browser history or cache. I haven’t yet tried to use text edit, but I will need to soon, so if that affects anything I will let you know.

Thanks for your advice, and I hope this can help solve the bug for other people too.

    regards

    Adrienne

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Adrienne,

To clarify, are you having issues with Beaver Builder or our page builder, SiteOrigin Page Builder? If you’re having issues with Beaver Builder I would recommend getting in contact with Beaver Builder’s support as they may be familiar with the issues you’re currently experiencing.
