Page Builder destroyed my home page content and theme in an hour

I went in to edit the home page using the Page Builder and all of my content and the home page’s current layout just disappeared. Editing in Page Builder did not show any of the content I was actually using.

Now when I deactivate Page Builder and try activating the theme I was using before, the home page with a parallax background image and other features is just gone. I can’t even show you a snapshot of what I had.

I did not have backups in place because I just started building this site this week. At the same time, I do not want to lose the work I had done in customizing a couple of different themes for my customer to preview. OK, I learned that lesson and now installed the duplicator plugin after the fact.

Page Builder should come with some sort of warning that you can lose the content you had input and the layouts provided by a theme if you experiment with it. And you can’t even get the layout back.

I have a feeling I am probably out of luck but I am starting a thread just in case someone can help me get back to the state my website was in before I installed and activated Page Builder and experimented with adding things to the home page.

I only lost a few days work but it will still be hard to recreate the writing and thinking I had done in creating a demo for my customer.

Thanks in advance if you can help.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Chtm

    Really sorry to hear about the hassles. Using WordPress page revisions is the only way to roll back from a Page Builder formatting loss situation. If Revisions aren’t enabled you can click Screen Options top right to enable them.

    When switching from Page Builder to the Visual/Text tabs there is a pop-up warning letting you know that Page Builder formatting will be lost in the move back to the regular editors.

    It’s been a while since your thread was posted. Hopefully, you’ve made progress since then. If there is anything we can assist with now, please, let me know.

    Although I can not help you restore your information may I recommend you checkout the backup plugin UpdraftPlus;

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/

    It is the first thing I install when developing with WordPress. You can use it to make regular backups to FTP or E-mail, it really will save you in these types of instances.

      Hi, I Work Here

      Thanks naz. A great plugin for sure. I can also confirm that it works perfectly with Page Builder.
