Page Builder and Gutenberg

I have 2.9 page builder version. Does that mean it works within Gutenberg now? My theme developer uses your page builder for all their demo content for their themes which I am using one. They are a great theme developer. However, they are currently working on changing their demo content to be Guten compatible. The demo content theme I used is all set up using page builder but didn’t show anywhere that I could convert the page to use Gutenberg there, retaining the page builder access and current layout.

I am sure I am missing something here. Do you have a video showing how your page builder functions with Gutenberg?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi SLBen,

SiteOrigin Page Builder 2.9 (Its block is called SiteOrigin Layout) and the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle 1.13.0 (its block is called SiteOrigin Widget) are both compatible with Gutenberg and have dedicated Blocks. The SiteOrigin page Builder block is called SiteOrgin Layout. The SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle block is called SiteOrigin Widget.

We’re currently working on an optional SiteOrigin Page Builder to Gutenberg conversion tool and it will be available shortly after the release of WordPress 5.0. For more general information about our products and Gutenberg compatibility, I would recommend giving the following articles a quick read:

    SiteOrigin Widgets in Gutenberg

Thanks Alex, I did previously look over those two links. I think I read that you recommended not to use SiteOrigin Layout (beta) in Gutenberg on production pages at this time, only on test/demo pages. What may happen if I do? I am on a deadline and would prefer to use Gutenberg with this new client’s site to get used to Gutenberg when 5.0 happens.

What does the Gutenberg conversion tool do? Does it convert nonGutenberg pages to Gutenberg or just the SiteOrigin?

    Hi SLBen,

Gutenberg is still undergoing rapid development so it’s not something we would recommend using on a product site as it’s not completely stable at this time. Our Gutenberg integration is close to being stable, but due to possible unexpected changes to Gutenberg, the integration could be broken. This is much less likely after the release of WordPress 5.0 as Gutenberg updates will undergo more testing due to stricter rules with WordPress updates.

We do highly recommend waiting until WordPress 5.0 to use Gutenberg.

What does the Gutenberg conversion tool do? Does it convert nonGutenberg pages to Gutenberg or just the SiteOrigin?

The conversion tool is a SiteOrigin Page Builder powered page to a Gutenberg page with the previously created SiteOrigin Page Builder powered page inside of a SiteOrigin Layout block.

My theme developer said that Gutenberg 5.0 will likely show up in a couple weeks. So, I think I am going to work within Gutenberg pages, learn the routines with Gutenberg only without SiteOrigin for now. I have a short deadline on this new website. And want to get ahead of the curve learning Gutenberg basics. I playing with https://testgutenberg.com/ to get the hang of it now. Then give something a try on the site. One step at a time.

My theme developer also created a Gutenberg editor plugin compatible to their theme and will use that until your Page Builder is officially out of beta. Thanks for input.

    Hi SLBen,

    That’s fine, and completely understandable.
Our products will be out of beta shortly after the release of WordPress 5.0 – it’s possible it may coincide with the release, we just have to account for any last minute Gutenberg changes.
