North Theme — Banner flickers when scrolling up/down

9 years ago · Last reply by Andrew Misplon 9 years ago

Hi! Just customised a site using North. Loved it so far except for this:

When I scroll up/down the home page, the banner (or masthead?), flickers. It is quite annoying.

my site: http://fasttrackbillionaire.com

Appreciate if you guys can take a look.

    Hi Chuk,

I’m unable to replicate this issue on your website. Could you please tell me more about your setup? What devices were you able to replicate this on? What OS are you using? What browsers? Basically, anything you think of that might help me replicate this. As soon as I’m able to replicate this we’ll get to work on fixing it asap.

    Hi Alex,

In Safari, the flickering is very noticeable.

In Chrome, it was just a moment and it was fine. You can notice when you start to scroll and when the word size was just about to shrink.

No problem at all in Firefox.

    So strange…

    Hey Chuck and Alex,

I have the exact same problem like chuck does. You can see another Post on this issue here: https://siteorigin.com/thread/nort-theme-safari-navigation-issue/

    To sum things up:

    – Safari on OS X with Safari 9.1.1 AND scrolling on the internal touchpad leads to flickering nav
    – Using an external mouse with a “”wheel”” leads to no issue
    – using the apple magic mouse results in the same flickering issue

Hope that helps to identify the problem. maybe it got something to do with javascript

Hi guys, I can recreate the issue with the mouse wheel of my Logitech mouse in Safari. I’ll log the issue now, we’ll attend as soon as possible. Fix will be in the next update, I can’t say when that’ll be, hopefully mid to late next week.

    Thanks guys!

I am your Vantage Premium customer and am just trying out North for another site. Your response and support for this free theme is equally outstanding.

    Keep up the good work!

Thanks for your support, it’s most appreciated :) I’ve marked this issue as a top priority. I’m sure we’ll be able to resolve shortly and include the fix in the next update. The thread linked above will be updated as the issue is discussed and worked on.

I followed your bug report on github. Thankfully the issue should be solved now. When can we expect the update? :D
I would love to see my homepage not flickering in safari anymore and can’t wait to update to new version.

    Sorry for my curiousness.

No problem at all, thanks for hanging in there. There is a problem with the WordPress.org theme updater at the moment, the upload functionality specifically. It’s being worked on by the WordPress theme team. Hopefully, it’ll be resolved next week. We’ll then release the update during the course of the week.

    Hi,
I have the same problem when I scroll the North theme on Safari. I use the version 1.2.3.
We still have to wait, haven’t we?

Thank you very much and congrats for your fabulous themes!

    Hi Guillaume

Good to hear from you :) Can you send us a link to your site so we can inspect the problem? I did the final testing this bug. We fixed it from what I could see and test but it’s possible we missed a particular situation or setup combination.

Currently my website is only local. But you can see the problem at this address : https://demo.siteorigin.com/north/ with Safari.
    Thank you very much.

Oh boy, it doesn’t look like this fix made x.2.3. Let me build a copy from the develop branch and put it only quickly. You can test it and confirm for us. Thanks for hanging in there.

Can you check the demo for me now: https://demo.siteorigin.com/north/2015/11/13/oh-what-a-sky/. That’s a new version I created now from the develop branch. Any difference? Refresh Safari a few times.

    Hey Andrew,

I just wanted to hang in again, because this problem was affecting me as well. I can now confirm, that the header doesn’t flicker
here: https://demo.siteorigin.com/north/2015/11/13/oh-what-a-sky/ Everything works smooth for me!

How can we get this update? :) I can hardly wait to see the update showing up in my backend. Or is there a faster way to install from the dev branch?

  15. Andrew Misplon Staff 9 years, 7 months ago

Sure, if you want to try the dev branch, I’ve uploaded it here. To install, switch to another theme, delete North, install the dev version from ThemesAdd NewUpload. Ignore the update in Dashboard > Updates until we offer up 1.2.4.
