Intermittent Hero Buttons not working

I have never been able to successfully get the buttons shortcode to work for the SiteOrigin Hero widget — though it seems to work fine for the Button widget. You can see a page in development at the attached URL where the button widget is clearly working, but in the hero image at the top, the shortcode is just displaying [buttons].

I’ve put “intermittent” in the title, because it was working for about 2 hours, yesterday, but now it’s not again. However, it’s not really that intermittent — it’s mostly not working at all. The period where it was briefly working was after I added a “Button ID” under Other attributes and SEO, but it stopped working the next time I changed the text in the hero frame (the button ID is still set).

This is on the latest version of wordpress and all plugins and themes. Vantage theme. There are only a handful of plugins, and I don’t think they’re likely conflicts, but for completeness’ sake:

Amazon Web Services
BlackStudio TinyMCE Widget
Contact Form 7
Dynamic Widgets
Hide Title
PageBuilder by SiteOrigin
Remove Widget Titles
SiteOrigin CSS
SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle
Widget CSS Classes
WP Offload S3

    Hi TheIbisNetwork

    Thanks for reaching out.

Seems to be working at the moment in OS X Chrome. Can you please let us know operating system and browser so we can replicate the test environment?

    Thanks :)

Yeah, sadly, it had started working again … intermittent problems are the worst :(

I managed to break it again by going back in and editing the text in the hero frame. You should see it broken now. I’ll hold off touching anything again for the next few minutes, so you can take a look.

Don’t think it’s relevant, but I’m using OS X Safari.

Hey guys. I had to move forward with working on the site, and at the moment, the problem isn’t occurring. However, I’m fairly certain I can replicate it, almost at will, so let me know if you want me to break things again.

I also think I have a clue as to the problem. I’m not completely sure this is the case, but it seems to be related to whether or not I edit the hero frame in text mode. Also (perhaps related or not), I note that the editor for the hero frame doesn’t have the checkbox for “automatically add p tags” — which I would almost always turn off, as I’m almost always editing in HTML.

What you could do is setup a demo/test page. Break the button and send us that link to check out. Thanks :)

To speed up development of the test page just use the Prebuilt button in Page Builder and clone the page we’re currently working with.

Good idea — here’s the super secret cloned page, with the button broken :)

Thanks for that. I’ve confirmed the bug. I’ll log this now. We’ll attend in an upcoming update. As soon as possible.

Appreciate all the work that goes into sending bug reports like this :)

    Hi Andrew,

I am having exactly the same issue described above. Since I see your last post is almost a month ago, I wonder if you have any news about this.

    Thanks

I am also having this problem, has there been any update?

    • 6 years, 1 month ago Andrew Misplon Hi, I Work Here

There aren’t any open issues with the SiteOrigin Hero widget button shortcode so it’s possible a plugin conflict is the issue. Please, open a new support thread or contact us via email and we’ll be happy to investigate further. Thanks.
