I grow increasingly frustrated

For whatever reason, I cannot get my questions answered. I have paid for the Vantage premium theme. It said we would get priority email support if we donated at least $15. Been there done that. Get directed to this poorly laid out support forum instead of getting a direct line to email support. I really love this theme, and love the way I have been able to build my site, but these little issues are starting to build up and I need them solved if I am going to use this blog of mine!

1. twenty fourteen theme sometimes makes an appearance on first navigation to site, but without my posts or formatting . . . defaulted back to Hello World! and sample posts.

2. what do i need to do to make sure that my featured images dont get cropped? what is the size or setting or anything to prevent this problem? i can adjust pics before i upload them but i need to know something on this!

3. how do i enable comments on my posts and pages? ajax comments are enabled but i get no boxes for it and cannot find any other option that is relevant.

i am linking directly to my blog page so that you can see issues number 2 and 3 in action. i dont even want to post my next article til people can interact with it.

like i said, i really love this theme and what i am able to do with it, i would gladly recommend it and plan on using it for several other sites but i need it to get these issues sorted asap or im going to end up purchasing some $65 super-all-inclusive theme from somewhere else.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Zach

    Thanks again for running Vantage. I picked up your email ticket, checked your site, ran through a few tests and then last replied here: https://siteorigin.com/thread/may-be-wordpress-issue-i-dont-know-but-original-site-shows-up-everytime-on-first-nav-to-site/ which is your initial thread with us. Did you perhaps miss that reply?

    Hi, I Work Here

    1. I initially saw the same issue as you did but no longer can see the problem. Was it perhaps a caching issue? Is there perhaps caching being done on the hosts side? Please clear your browser’s cache and check to see if you can replicate the issue. I’m currently unable to replicate.

    2. Featured images with a sidebar present are 770px wide: http://demo.siteorigin.com/vantage/blog/. Without a sidebar present they are 1080px wide. It’s possible to tailor the size of the featured images using this plugin here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-image-sizes/. It’s a powerful plugin so be careful. You can also control your blog and featured image settings from Appearance > Theme Settings > Blog.

    3. Comments are enabled on a post by post, page by page basis. Here is our tutorial for disabling comments, the opposite applies for enabling them: https://siteorigin.com/basics/disable-wordpress-comments/.

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you for your speedy responses Andrew. You’ve been great. And yes, 1. seems like it has faded away for now. And thank you for those links.

    I apologize for my impatience, my site is just looking too awesome now and I am anxious to drop it.

    Again, I appreciate you. Thanks so much. I apologize for being another jerk on the support forums.

  4. 10 years, 1 month ago Zach Bradshaw

    but actually, its not the width, i needed, its the height.

  5. 10 years, 1 month ago Zach Bradshaw

    it seems like its 770 x 400 normal width. that true? took a bunch of image cutting to figure it out . . . is that correct though?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Zach

    I’ve just answered your featured image size question on your other thread – https://siteorigin.com/thread/not-quite-as-important-as-my-other-request-but-i-bet-it-will-be-a-faster-fix/

    And just to quickly address us focusing on forum support instead of email support. Well, basically we’re the only theme company that I know of that lets people choose how much they want to pay for themes. In order for this model to work, we need to keep our support as efficient as possible. Email support means we end up answering the same questions over and over. With forum support, we’re hoping to build a searchable database of questions and answers.

    Sorry to hear you’ve had issues with our forum’s layout. I am making improvements daily to try improve the overall experience.

    Thanks for understanding and I hope that we can improve our support experience in the coming months.

    new set :)

    1. Can you double check that image size for me? I do believe it is 770 x 400, Andrew told me the width was 770 and i think he has it right, my pics fit now.

    2. when i attach an image or to a page or put it in a post or feature image slot, really anywhere, i can edit all of the details (alt text, caption, and the like) of the pic but when i go to my library and go to ‘Edit’ the pics, those details are not stored there. consequently, i have two slightly different detail sets on a few pictures . . . and i was thinking to myself before i figured it out ‘i thought i already did this’. turns out im not crazy, just dont quite get wordpress yet. so, before i do a round of copy and pasting, is there a way to make them update to each other, from the media library file to the editor on whichever page ive placed the image?

    3. thanks guys

    4. im new to this web building thing but i feel like i am learning fast. id like to help you guys if you i can i think SLIDING SCALES ROCK! i would love to help you guys out here in the forum if possible . . . if you could make a system like a normal categorized forum with a search feature, i would be willing to organize them into their spots and then maybe go back and tag and rate all of the posts as well to help with search. i think it would help me refine these new skills, looking over the questions of others. plus i like you guys, so yea.

    5. new issue: added a few plugins, maybe they caused the issue, but i cannot get any formatting to stick on new blog posts. cant get skipped lines between paragraphs, bold, etc. Andrew, you still have the same user key if you want to take a look. this problem is quite pressing.

  9. 10 years, 1 month ago Zach Bradshaw

    6. my vantage headline and metaslider are malfunctioning just slightly on my home page . . . there should be no gray on the sides or either.

    thanks in advance guys.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Zach

    1. 770px is the correct width for a post featured image with a sidebar present.

    2. Unfortunately not to my knowledge. WordPress uses the Media Library data when it adds an image but doesn’t dynamically load it.

    3.

    4. Thanks for your positive feedback, really glad to hear you’re coming along nicely. The forum needs refinement for sure. Keep an eye out, I’m sure we’ll slowly roll changes out in the coming months.

    5. I can certainly take a look but before I do, try temporarily de-activating your plugins not made by SiteOrigin. If the issue resolves then re-activate your plugins one by one while checking the issue. Our overview on this is here: https://siteorigin.com/troubleshooting/identifying-plugin-conflicts/

    6. You can set the background color of your slider by pasting the following under Appearance > Custom CSS and editing as required:

    #main-slider {
    background: #EEEEEE !important;
    }

    For the widget below that, click the second button on the right in that Page Builder row, Visual Style and un-select Wide Grey.

  11. 10 years, 29 days ago Zach Bradshaw

    1. i still need the correct height for the pic with sidebar present

    2. so will editing descriptions in the library will have no effect on seo or any other functionality of my page? editing only the description of the pic where it appears matters, correct?

    5 –> 3. i have disabled all the new plugins i added since my last successful post and there has been no change. . . there are a few more like cackle comments and digg digg that i am scared to disable because im not sure if i will lose any of the info on my site. if i were sure that i wouldnt lose anything id just disable them all now, but as it stands, id be much more comfortable with you coming in and taking a look.

    6 –> 4. was able to do it for the widget but idk what exactly i am supposed to do with the css edit . . . i went there, pasted that code in the empty box, but it didnt change anything. i didnt think that was quite what you meant anyway but i havent started studying how css works yet.

    thanks again

    Hi, I Work Here

    1. Try 770 x 406.

    2. That’s correct.

    3. No information will be lost by de-activating a plugin. Can I quickly confirm; it’s not possible to edit content created in Page Builder via the Visual / Text tabs. So in any given post or page you can either work in Visual / Text OR in Page Builder. Can you confirm this isn’t the problem with getting formatting to save in your posts.

    4. The snippet I provided must be pasted into Appearance > Custom CSS but you need to edit it. #EEEEEE is the current slider background color so you’ll need to edit that color as required. Give that a try. So for white it should be:

    #main-slider {
    background: #FFFFFF !important;
    }

    1. thanks

    3 –>2. good to know, but yes i deactivated them all except page builder, saved the draft anew and went and took a look at the preview and it is still unformatted. there is nothing on the pagebuilder for that post either, even deleted the blank row that is always there, saved and previewed and still nothing. that was good to know though, thanks. whenever you get a chance to take a look, very much appreciated. i had planned to publish that post on thursday.

    thanks yet again

    4 –>3. worked perfectly, thank you.

    4. is there a way to produce intro text or a separate title when using the “Blog” page layout? I’m wondering if i can provide an intro to my blog page with that layout or whether i need to use the default template and just ad a post loop with page builder . . .

    Hi, I Work Here

    Please let me know what your login url is and I’ll take a look at the formatting issue.

    Instead of using the Blog page template use a Default or Full Width page template. Then use Page Builder and Post Loop widget to pull your posts, you can then display content around the blog posts as required.

  15. 10 years, 27 days ago Zach Bradshaw

    /3p4life-duh . . . is it impossible for me to delete this comment?

  16. 10 years, 27 days ago Zach Bradshaw

    the post i am trying to get published currently is legitimate work from home gigs btw

    Hi, I Work Here

    Zach I’d look at if you definitely need the addon editor that’s being used in the Visual tab right now. It’s causing a conflict, as you can see, for example, the Page Builder tab is no longer a tab.

    With regards to your posts, your paragraphs are being added as div’s instead of paragraphs and have inline color styles.

    At a glance I’d say it’s either of these two:

    Symple Shortcodes
    HC Text Widget

    To get a TinyMCE editor for use within widget areas and Page Builder, rather use: http://wordpress.org/plugins/black-studio-tinymce-widget/

  18. 10 years, 26 days ago Zach Bradshaw

    I think part of the problem for your view may be that i was logged in to a computer that never shows the page builder . . . javascript and flash player dont work but youtube will? idk crazy quark of the machine but i usually use a more capable computer to edit my site as this one is limited . . . i started to show my gf my that post but then i saw you were in my account so i was like ok let me back out but i did not log in. i have never noticed that the pagebuilder doesnt work except on this machine, though i could have just missed it but i do not think so

    that wysiwyg was one of the first plugins i installed and symple shortcodes has been on there since the get go . . . i deactivated every plugin except pagebuilder but the problem persisted. BUT i will give that tiny mce widget a try once i can get on the other computer tomorrow. if this widget works i will just get rid of the other one.

    i use the wysiwyg editor so that i can use the symple shortcodes in widgetized areas (really only example so far is when going with pagebuilder instead of visual/text on a page) and so i kinda need both . . . now i suppose i have two questions

    1. would it be possible to skillfully edit them both so that they no longer conflict?

    2. is there a way to use the features of pagebuilder with visual text . . . for instance, could i do what i did with http://www.zachbradshaw.co/writing-skills/ outside of pagebuilder?

  19. 10 years, 26 days ago Zach Bradshaw

    **with visual/text

  20. 10 years, 26 days ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

    1. There isn’t a way we can hotfix the conflict between the editor addon you’re using and Page Builder, that’s more of a medium to long term fix if enough users report the conflict.

    2. You can only edit Page Builder from within Page Builder. Page Builder content can’t be edited from the Visual / Text tabs. I’d recommend using Page Builder for pages and the regular Visual / Text tabs for posts.

    For text formatting within Page Builder use: http://wordpress.org/plugins/black-studio-tinymce-widget/
