Hi
I added a second menu in the header using the appropriate widget.
It works perfectly fine for me but it does not show for the person for whom I am working on the website.
I checked with 3 different browsers (Firefox, Chrome & Safari) and everything is fine on 3 different Macs.
My friend uses a PC (Lenovo with latest Windows OS). She checked with Chrome and IE with the same negative result.
What should I be checking ?
Thanks
Hi
Thanks for reaching out.
Do you have a public URL where we can take a look at what’s going on?
Sure, it is https://traveldream.ch/
Thanks. We’ve checked the header widget area menu in Firefox, Chrome, IE 11, and Edge, it’s showing in all of them. The top bar is slightly covering the menu. Perhaps that’s the issue? https://imgur.com/a/VpTGIsG
Thank Andrew you for checking. The top bar disappears as soon as the cookie’s policy is accepted; it cannot be the reason.
Probably some odd setting on her computer but it is hard to figure out what it could be…
Thanks for the update. At the moment, we’re unfortunately unable to replicate the issue.
I just checked again on my own computer (MacBook Pro) and have three different results depending on the browser (I could send you print screens if you give me a link)
1) Firefox = perfect
2) Chrome = widget menu in header not showing and inactive (I tried clicking in every spot, nothing there)
3) Safari = active and visible but wrong format (too large and hitting on the logo)
There is definitely something going on with this widget or the way I used it…
In your Custom CSS, you’ve set the line-height of the header widget menu to
-1px
. That declaration should be removed and might explain the issue described by your friend. In that same CSS rule, the font-weight of the menu is set to 700 but only 400 is being imported. Try to change the weight from 700 to 400 in your Custom CSS.It does the trick on Safari which now looks exactly like Firefox, but still nothing on Chrome.
I cleared the cache, just in case, but still nothing
All is ok on my end in Chrome using a Mac Pro, here is how the menu looks https://imgur.com/a/BkQFAh0. You can perhaps try temporarily removing all Custom CSS to see if there is any change. You could also try viewing the site in an Incognito window with all browser extensions disabled.
I tried both ideas as well as no CSS on an incognito window, but none works.
This is really weird.
You could perhaps ask someone else to confirm the Chrome result.
Sure, I will do, but there is already two different persons with two different computers.
Hi
I have some info which might help find out what is happening.
I shut down my computer with several windows still open, including the Chrome window with link to the site.
When I logged in today I could see this:
Chrome opens up
the structure of the site pops up with both menus
then the Travel Dream logo appears and the top menu disappears, like the whole section was being covered by the logo area.
Following my previous discovery, I thought that it could be that the surface of the logo might cover the menu.
I tried replacing that logo with a ridiculously small image and it worked.
Why would that be interpreted differently in Chrome than in other browsers ??
Is there a way to adjust that imprint of the logo area ?
At CustomizeTheme SettingsHeader you can perhaps try enabling No Widget Overlay and see if that changes the issue. At the moment, when I view the site in Chrome, I’m, unfortunately, unable to recreate the problem.
There is no option for Header under Theme Settings.
I am running version Version: 1.15.5 which, I think, is up to date
All I have is:
logo
layout
home
navigation
icons
blog
social
general
Apologies, Theme SettingsLogo.
No problem … but it still does not work.
That website being for an association, I suggested to modify their logo to make it more square instead of rectangular. I don’t know if they could accept it but I tried it and it would work.
Anyway that issue with Chrome is mind blowing, I cannot start to understand why this browser would interpret the code in a different way than the others under some circumstances.
Hi,
Would it be possible for you to re-add the larger logo and then take a screenshot of the issue you’re seeing? This will give us a better idea of what you’re seeing. We currently don’t support attachments so you’ll need to upload the image to somewhere like Imgur and reply with a link to the image.
While the issue is present, can you please try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins to see if that helps? I ask as I see that the logo is being lazy loaded so it’s possible you may be getting different resulted because of that.
Kind regards,
Alex
Sure, the bigger logo is back; you can see the difference between Firefox & Chrome here https://imgur.com/a/ulVsXAk
As I said before, when I upload a modified logo (about 50% smaller) then the menu shows on Chrome also.
I deactivated all plugins and now cannot even access my WP Dashboard…
Anyway I checked Chrome again and now the logo & menu are showing properly.
I have restored the backup of the previous day; you can check it again at https://traveldream.ch/
There we go !
I found that it is the plugin Smush by WPMU DEV which causes the problem with Chrome. When deactivated, all looks fine.
This is a big problem for me as that website uses tons of images from various origins and Smush is just perfect to regulate them… Bummer.
Problem solved: I just unchecked smushing of .png formats and that did the trick.
Thanks for helping me think through this strange situation.
Super, glad to hear you’re making progress :) Thanks for the update.
