Footer Widgets don’t appear after updating North Theme

Good evening to everyone!

I’m using North Theme for a business website (https://www.volt24.gr/), which runs WordPress 6.7.1 and the last update of North Theme. After updating theme with the last version, the widgets on Footer section have disappeared. I can see the widgets on footer section in the appropriate menu (Appearance > Widgets > Footer Widgets), in which I have set a Layout Builder. When I click on this to open-edit it, the widgets are already set and OK, but when I run or preview the site the widgets are not loaded (?). I clear the cache many times. Moreover, I checked an option on Customise Menu > Widgets > Footer Widgets and Layout Builder seems to be disabled.

I am looking forward to your answer. Thank you in advance!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Costas

I’m unfortunately unable to replicate the issue you’re facing. Widgets are displaying normally on the North demo https://demo.siteorigin.com/north/ I’ve tried adding a Layout Builder and it displays normally. If you have a moment, it would be helpful to clear Autoptimize and WP Super Cache and then temporarily deactivate all plugins except for Page Builder and the Widgets Bundle. With only the two plugins activated, does the issue persist?

    Hi Andrew,

Unfortunately the issue persist. I disabled every plugin except for Page Builder and Widgets Bundle and I tried to add widget on footer section but it is not appear. I cleared both Autoptimise and WP Super Cache but no result!…

    Hi, I Work Here

Hi Costas, thanks for trying. Any chance you’re using a plugin like Widget Options that controls widget visibility?

Hi Andrew, I am using Livemesh SiteOrigin Widgets but I don’t use any widget of this collection on footer section. I ‘ve already disabled it. The issue appears on Appearance > Customise > Widgets menu, when I click on “Footer Widgets” the widgets I set up, seems to be not available (grey font colour). I tried to add an extra widget to footer by clicking on “Add A Widget” button, I pick up a widget (i.e. Button Grid), and then, it turns to grey colour on the widget list. If I press “Publish” the widget does not appear at all

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for the feedback. You can perhaps try editing your widgets from AppearanceWidgets to see if your widgets and content are in place there.

No. Unfortunately the issue is the same. I try to open Footer Widgets from menu Appearance > Widgets, click on “Footer Widgets”, open Layout Builder and my widgets are already there. I try to add a new one, click on “Done”, then click on “Save”, I reload the site (Ctrl + F5, to clear cache) but no result. The widgets are not displayed on site.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Thanks for trying.

You can perhaps try dragging your widget or widgets out of the Footer Widget Area into the Inactive Widgets area at AppearanceWidgets. You could then try dragging in a new test widget, perhaps a Text Widget, add some text and see if it outputs.

If you suspect the issue is related to a North update, you can try rolling back; WP Rollback is one way to do that https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-rollback/.

    Good evening Andrew.

Some good news … I fixed the error. There was an error in the footer.php file of the North theme on my server. Specifically, the error was located at the point, where the code displays the credits on the website (copyright, sitename, etc.), which was caused by my own mistake, when I accidentally deleted the “site-info” class. I downloaded Norththeme again, unzipped the “footer.php” file, copied it and replaced the old one with this one. Now the widgets load and appear on the website normally. I’ve just forgot to renew my Siteorigin premium subscription.

Thank you very much for your time and have a nice day!

    Hi Costas

Super; really glad to hear you were able to find the cause of the problem. Thanks for keeping us updated.

The following pages might be of help for future customizations:

    Cheers for now.
