Error message on Form

6 years ago · Last reply by Andrew Misplon 6 years ago

I’ve added a form to my site and am impressed with its layout and features. However I’ve just tried testing it and it gives the “Error sending email, please try again later”. Looking at other users’ similar issues, I’ve deactivated all other plugins but it didn’t help (I’ve now reactivated them). I also tried different browsers: Chrome and Edge.

Can you advise please?

    Hi, thanks for posting.

This error can occur when your WordPress installation isn’t able to send email. You could try testing for the problem by logging out and going to your login page /wp-login.php and checking to see if the password reset link sends email. If you find a general issue with WordPress sending email you could either reach out to your hosts or you could setup email using your own mail server and a plugin like https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/.

    Hi Andrew,

I’ve installed the plugin and it now works! Thank you!

Unfortunately when a form is filled in, it only emails the first line, i.e. the Last Name. None of the other fields are sent. Can you advise please?

    Hi Piers

I’m glad to hear you’re making progress.

Do you have a public URL where we can take a look at what’s going on?

    Sure. It's: https://reskilled.org/what-we-do/

You'll find the Newsletter sign-up at the bottom.

Thanks, I sent a test, is the issue persisting?

  6. piersross 6 years, 4 months ago

    Hi Andrew,

Yes, there's no difference. Also, you probably didn't get a confirmation response either.

    We'll keep going. Thanks,

    Piers

Hi Piers, is there any difference if you install Contact Form 7 plugin and set up a quick test form?

  8. piersross 6 years, 3 months ago

I've just tried this and yes, Contact Form 7 does work. I'm happy to stick with SiteOrigin's form if we can get it to work, otherwise might it be best to switch for this particular function?

    Many thanks,

    Piers

Super, thanks for running the test. Please, could you send us a JSON export of the page? Edit the page in Page Builder, click the Layouts button then Import/Export > Download Layout. With the JSON file on your desktop, head over to WeTransfer.com and upload the file, no email address is needed. Finally, send us the link. Thanks :)

    Thanks Andrew,

This is getting a little complex for my skill level and if I send a link,
then anyone can play with it. Are you able to communicate by email
(@siteorigin) rather than public post please?

    Hi Piers

I know it might sound a little bit much but I think you’ll find it quite quick and easy. Edit the page, click LayoutsImport/ExportDownload Layout and send us that file via WeTransfer.com, that’s it.

We can log in to your WP install and chat via email as part of our SiteOrigin Premium support scope.

Super, thanks. Could you perhaps send the layout with the SiteOrigin Contact Form that isn’t working as it should?

  14. Andrew Misplon Staff 6 years, 3 months ago

Super, thanks for the layout. Glad to see you’re able to export layouts with ease now.

The SiteOrigin Contact Form autoresponder is included with SiteOrigin Premium. More on that here: Page: Contact Form. Apologies, I should have clarified that after I sent my test and you queried the autoresponder.

In terms of the form sending emails beyond the first field, please, try changing the Last Name field type from Name to Text. The form should then work normally. I’ll be sure to raise this with the team, the bug was originally logged here.
