Displaying categories in blog page

10 years ago · Last reply by Andrew Misplon 10 years ago

Congratulations again on a great theme!

I was wondering if there is a way to include the post category next to the post author, right under the post title. I have been looking for a solution but couldn’t find anythingon the subject.

Thanks!

    Hi Theotherplatt

Unfortunately, this isn’t possible without a fair amount of custom coding. This is beyond the scope of what we can help you with on the forums, but you could hire a developer to implement this for you.

    We highly recommend using https://codeable.io/.

(Post categories are in Vantage, by default, displayed at the bottom of the post on the left – sorry I don’t have more for you on this one.)

    Hi Andrew,

I see, I thought it would be possible to add a category class at the end of the “entry-meta” line.

Basically what I am trying to achieve is to have the posts in the blog page (it’s all excerpts) to show their category so that one can click on a category and be linked to the relative Category Archive page. Is there a different way for me to achieve this?

For the moment the only way for a visitor to see a category archive page is to open a blog post and go to the bottom of it and click on whatever category that post is tagged with.

I am sure I am missing something, any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thank you again for your support!

Sure, this definitely can be done, it’s just a little outside of what we can assist with from theme support. The “posted_on” function is in inc/template-tags.php. You can drop that into your child theme functions file and edit as required. That kind of overview advice I can help with.

    Thank you Andrew,

Maybe before getting into that there is an easier way to work around this issue. Do you have recommendations for a good “categories” widget that I can put on the sidebar? If I can place something that looks nice in the sidebar and allow readers to filter blog posts by category I have pretty much achieved my goal. I made a search for a nice plugin but so far all I have found didn’t quite meet the criteria.

If you have recommendations I would appreciate it, but I know this is a bit outside of the scope of the support forum.

    All the best!

    Sure :)

WordPress adds a core widget that displays all of your categories. If you’re looking for a widget that’ll display the categories related to the post being viewed then I, unfortunately, don’t have a recommendation.
