Custom Post Types – Custom Fields Display with Vantage and Pagebuilder

Hi Andrew, et. al.:
What do I need to know to be able to display custom post types with custom fields using Vantage and Pagebuilder?
I’m trying to find a way to populate a Vantage Premium page (or post, or custom post) with a listing of members of a specific custom post type, including contents of each custom post’s custom fields.
I’m not exactly sure where to start to make this work. Do I need to create a different page template?, mess with the functions.php file?, create new archive type files? I could use a little guidance.
It’s on a development site, not the one in the issue URL.
Appreciate the help
HG/mws

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi HG

    Thanks for reaching out.

Anything you do in this regard must be done from within a child theme. If you need a starter child theme for Vantage, you can find one here:

    https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/vantage-child-starter.zip

This is a custom development job, we can try steer you in the right direction. It all depends on how those fields were created. For example, if you used ACF then there is documentation on how to output ACF fields:

    http://www.advancedcustomfields.com/resources/code-examples/

    Thanks Andrew,

I’m definitely running a child theme of Vantage premium.

I was thinking of using something like WPMU’s CustomPress, as I have a current one. I’ll look at ACF.

But my question is more about how you get a series of custom posts placed within a PageBuilder layout. Do you do that with a specific widget or shortcode that pulls a loop of the custom post type? Is it something that’s done with a single row or can you have it work with multiple rows, with graphic breaks?

I’ll look at the docs you referenced; but I’m more wondering how it shows up using Pagebuilder.

    Thanks again,

    HG/mws

    Hi, I Work Here

Our Post Loop widget can pull posts from your post type. You could also check out other loop widgets like Query Wrangler: https://en-za.wordpress.org/plugins/query-wrangler/

It’s, unfortunately, not recommended for live site yet; we have a new post types plugin:

    https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/so-cpt-builder.zip

If you had a testing installation somewhere you could perhaps test it out and see what you think.

    Hi, I Work Here

Apologies if I’ve mentioned our new beta post types plugin, forget if we’ve chatted about already.

    Thank Andrew,

Got a link to any documentation or tutorial on the “post loop widget”? All I see are threads about it in the forum?

    Hi, I Work Here

Unfortunately, not at this time. The most helpful thing I can say is once in the Post Loop widget click Query Builder button. The fields provided respond to search, start typing the name of a post or category depending on the field you’re using and you’ll be prompted to make choices.

Darn. Wish there was some mention in your docs on it. I’m kind of a newbie on all this insider stuff on custom post types and custom fields. I know it’s the best way to organize and display multiple groups of related information, and know that there’s a loop to pull them. But, just need to test it out and break a few things to find out how it works. Love to see a video or section in your training docs on “SiteOrigin Widgets”, including this one and the others. I’m not so good on faking my way through.

    Thanks,

    HG/mws

    Hi, I Work Here

For sure, this is an area we don’t have any documentation on just yet. Sorry, wish we had more to offer right now. On the way in the medium term.

    Andrew,
Is this current? Has your post type builder moved to production level yet? If so, got a link?

    Thanks again,

      Hi, I Work Here

      Hi HG

Sorry, no, this isn’t current. The module was completely rebuilt after this. It’s a component of SiteOrigin Premium now. The documentation for it can be found here:

      Page: Custom Post Type Builder

If you click on the Custom Post Type Builder play button here: Download: SiteOrigin Premium you can view the short video.

    Andrew,

So, this is only available with the SiteOrigin Premium Subscription? Any way to pick it up under Vantage Premium or ala carte?

By the way, is NO Attribution still available in Vantage Premium?

    Hi, I Work Here

Unfortunately, not. At the moment SiteOrigin Premium modules are only available together in the premium plugin. Vantage Premium is no longer for sale in its original form. No Attribution is a module in SiteOrigin Premium. Vantage Premium is still supported for existing users.

Is the setting within Vantage Premium to remove the Siteorigin attribution still available?

    Hi, I Work Here

Vantage Premium should automatically remove the attribution link on activation.
