Custom CSS styling not possible

I am trying to do some custom CSS styling to change the margins and some spacing within and around rows and panel widgets. Nothing too complicated I might add.

I am running a SiteOrigin theme (Estate) along side page builder, and I don’t really want to create a child theme at this stage to add an override functions.php file or change to the theme code.

I am finding it very hard to make CSS selectors on the rows as the page builder plugin generates powerful ID selectors for each row created (#pg-19-0 ) that override all the classes on and within the rows and in the widgets below.

For example: This class based selector….

.panel-grid-cell .panel {
margin-bottom: 0;

Keeps getting overriden by this one as it’s so much more specific

#pg-19-0, #pg-19-1, #pg-19-2, #pg-19-3, .panel-grid-cell .panel {
margin-bottom: 30px;

I don’t want to have to style (or add the same custom CSS based on each row ID) for every page I use page builder on. I need to be able to change the styling at a generic level so it works on all panels or rows if necessary. I cannot find any way of making the selectors more specific (I have tried to increase specificity as much as possible) as there simply aren’t any IDs in the code at the lower level at all.

Some help would be much appreciated. Thanks

    Hi Simon

    For sure, I realise that the first selector you pasted is only really useful if you want to add a larger margin.

    Try this child theme: https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/estate-child.zip. Install via Appearance > Themes > Add New: Upload.

    Adjust the 10 integer in functions.php to adjust the bottom margin. I’ve re-declared the Page Builder bottom margin so you can now set it there in an upgrade safe manner.
