I am eventually retrieving the contact form applications but they are taking a great deal of time to be retrieved.
I have the contact form settings set to sent the completed form to the domain name email address and a separate Hotmail account. For my first attempt the email was received within about 3 hours to the Hotmail account. The domain email address received this about 8 hours later. After this the times have varied but still none quicker than 3 hours.
I understand this will vary in time depending on email server and traffic but I would like to know is it meant to take this amount of time to receive this email or is this unusual?

It’s unusual. To rule out the SiteOrigin Contact Form widget you could try creating a test form using a plugin like Contact Form 7 and see if the issue persists.
