Can’t arrange menu order

Dear Staff,

After I activated the child them you guys kindly created for me to solve the search icon and scroll to top icon issue, I can’t change menu order. I switched back to my old child theme, then menu starts to function normally (“search icon” and “scroll to top icon” don’t work in my old child theme though).

(I sent this message to your support email, but haven’t got response yet. So I’m posting on thread again. Could you please reply me privately on this matter? Thank you.)

    Hi BM

Sorry we missed your other message. When activating a child theme it’s unfortunately normal for menu location assignments to reset. Can you confirm that after activating our child theme, that you went to Appearance > Menus and saved your custom menu to the theme’s primary menu location?

    Hi Andrew,

Thank you for the reply. Yes I saved my custom menu under Appearance / Menus under the primary menu.

I moved “About/Contact” from main menu to footer menu, removed it from main menu, then saved it. But “About/Contact” still shows on main menu (also on footer). I tested again and tried to move order of my main menu, it doesn’t let me.
Not sure if it’s caused by something else….? Thank you.

Are you making use of a caching plugin?

  4. BM 10 years, 11 months ago

You mean W3 Cache? If it causes problems, I can uninstall it.

It's possible menu change isn't reflecting due to caching. Try clearing the plugins cache after making the menu change.

  6. BM 10 years, 11 months ago

    Sure~
I clicked “empty cache” under “Performance”. Then refresh my browsers. But menu order still doesn’t work.
I’ve tried to open my sites on different computers with different browsers…

Thanks for trying that. If you could please email through a set of temp login details ill dive in tomorrow. Perhaps hop on our last email about members plugins and send through the details there. Thanks

Sure. Just to clarify: what “temp login details” do you need? Where can I find these info? Thank you.

Apologies. Head to Users, there you can setup a new admin account. Please don't send any details publically. Thanks.

    Hi Andrew,

Not sure if you receive email I sent to your support email… Are you able to log in my site with the admin user I created for you?
My menu order is still not functional…. When I created any new page (without assigning it to any menu), it automatically appears on “main menu” as the top level. I still can’t move menu order around or delete any menu…

“Feedback” and “Subscribe” are not supposed to be on main menu (they shall be on footer only).
When I switched to old child theme, menu order starts to functional again.

I’m unfortunately not finding those login details anywhere. Would you mind emailing them through to:

    [email protected]

You and I will then be able to see them on this thread.

If there isn’t a custom menu assigned to the theme’s primary menu location then new top level pages will automatically be added to the menu.

There is also a setting under Appearance > Menus that automatically adds new top level menu items to the menu, even if it’s a custom menu.

    Hi Andrew,

I've just added a new admin user for you again. You shall receive an email with login credentials via [email protected]. Please let me know if you still don't receive it.

I had no problem customizing menu orders under Appearance > Menus until I used the child theme you kindly created for me. When I switched back to my old child theme, menu orders start working again.

My site is currently under my old child theme. Please feel free to change it to the child theme you created for fixing menu order issues if needed.
    Thank you.
