Hi, with the new Gutenberg version, I can no longer use page builder or modify ANY of my existing pages. I currently have Page Builder for Create Version 10.2.4.5.
I did try heading over to Pages > All Pages but there is no drop-down arrow next to Add New to add a new Block Editor page.(I read to try this in one of the previous threads).
Hi, thanks for posting.
Unfortunately, Page Builder for Create isn’t our plugin, it’s a ThemeTrust fork of our plugin. I believe there is an update available but I’m not sure, you’d need to reach out to ThemeTrust and ask them. Page Builder is an open source project so any developer can fork it at any time, once the project is forked, we no longer have any control over the project.
Is there a way to switch over to your plugin rather than having the project forked by using ThemeTrust?
I didn’t design the website. After my web developer bailed, I’ve been maintaining the site on my own. I am not very familiar with plugins and whatnot but this blog is my lifeblood and I loved working in Page Builder. I’m desperate!
Thank you
Any idea when the Page Builder fork stopped working? Was it when you upgraded to WordPress 5.0? If so, downgrading to get your functionality back for the moment is a worthwhile stopgap measure.
Alex has the most experience with this fork, I’m not sure about switching over. I’ll ask him to comment as soon as he’s back on Monday morning.
Yes, everything went haywire after the 5.0 update. Not only can I no longer use PageBuilder, I can’t edit any of my existing content or pages.
Are you on a hosting service that offers an easy method of creating a testing/staging site?
The site was set up and is hosted under GoDaddy. (I’ve recently been made aware they’re not all that stellar.)
I ask because you can use https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-downgrade/ to rollback your WordPress version. However, it would be best to first create a copy of your site and test rolling back to see what happens. The riskier route would be to create a complete backup of your site using a plugin like Duplicator and then rollback. If you run into trouble you could then restore with Duplicator.
Most web hosts keep backups of your site for seven days. Did you do the WP 5.0 update within the last few days? Have you asked your hosts if they can roll your site back to a specific day and time?
GoDaddy has backup services. I suggest you start there. Research, whether you have an auto backup, enabled and if so if you can roll back to when you have WordPress 4.9.8 or 4.9.9 installed.
Everything I’ve said is general advice. Unfortunately, we can’t directly assist if you run into trouble restoring backups or rolling back. Sorry to be so blunt about that. It’s really far beyond our support scope and can be very time intensive work if things go wrong. Before making any changes you should create a backup of your site as it is now.
I’m so sorry, I have no background in anything tech related so you may have to talk to me at a kindergarten level when it comes to this stuff.
I know the site was set up to automatically backup every night and to automatically update. Because it’s set up that way, it automatically updated to 5.0 last Friday. I didn’t even know there was a new version of WordPress coming out. Since then, I’ve had the issues with page builder and modifying existing content.
Again, I’m sorry I am so tech illiterate.
No problem. I recommend starting with GoDaddy support. You can send them the message you’ve just posted above. And ask, is there any backup of your site from or before last Thursday that you can restore?
Ok, thank you. I did try contacting them first. They told me to reach out to you guys.
Please, try again but don’t request general assistance. Your request should ideally be specific, is there a backup of your site available from date ‘X’ and if so, can they restore that backup on your behalf?
I can ask them to backup to X date but if there’s a new WP update, let’s say WP 5.2, wouldn’t the same thing happen again when it automatically updates?
Ask them about deactivating auto-updates.
Also, I suggest opening a support topic/email with ThemeTrust at the same time.
Ok, thank you!
Hi Fullforlife,
Sorry for the delay.
As of version 1.1.4 of Create, you should no longer require the Create fork and should be able to install our plugins directly (both Page Builder by SiteOrigin and SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle). Just note that version 1.1.4 of Create is actually quite old so there may have been changes made to ensure compatibility with our plugins in more newer updates so if your license is still active your best bet would be to ensure you’re using the latest version, 2.2.5.
You can remove the forks by navigating to WP AdminPluginsInstalled Plugins and deactivate both Page Builder by SiteOrigin For Create and SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle for Create, then delete both. Click Add New and search for and install/activate Page Builder by SiteOrigin. Then search for and install/activate SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle.
