can I change overall theme default page layout?

By Barb, 8 years ago. Last reply by Andrew Misplon, 8 years ago.

Hi! I am using the North theme and I don’t see a place where I might re-set the overall theme page layout default from it’s current ‘with sidebar’ to the one I’d prefer (‘no sidebar’). My site is content-rich, not a blog, and I have a lot of pages and a couple key plugins … it’s become problematic to have the ‘wrong’ default page layout for me. I DO see options to change the page layout default in various things like blog, archives, taxonomies.. but not a place where I can basically re-set the core default page layout for this whole theme.

Help, please:)!! I’d appreciate any input. I also have pagebuilder and your css editor if either of those might be helpful to do this re-set.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Barb

    Thanks for posting your question.

I completely understand why you’d need this. Unfortunately, there aren’t any options to set global defaults for page settings at the moment. I realise this is linked to your previous thread, with custom development, you could add custom page templates to a North child theme to resolve this challenge.

I’m glad you saw the connection between my two questions. Further question: I AM using a North child theme already – when you say ‘add custom page templates’ do you mean I would need to start from scratch, or, is there some way I could sort of ‘clone’ some existing page and somehow tag it / designate it as a template, versus a page? [I realize this may be a basic WordPress / web programming questions vs specifically North theme / pagebuilder … but any help/direction would be appreciated.]

Thanks for your answers so far, Andrew – OH, OR: would any of your other themes allow me these options (either a ‘no sidebar’ default – still need a ‘with sidebar’ template/page layout option) and/or the ability to directly access multiple page ‘templates’?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Sure :)

Creating new page templates would be relatively quick to do but it’s a custom development task. It’s unfortunately beyond the scope of what I can walk you through here on the forums. If you hire a developer to assist we’d be happy to offer technical advice, should they require it.

Vantage has Page Templates as well as Page Settings. We added the Page Templates first and the Page Settings much later.

I do have the premium license, fyi …I’m not sure how to shift this conversation over to that? Or, let’s just stop this one after this response: thanks for info; I’ll consider these options.
