I have created a new user on the site who will be a contributor on the blog When clicking his name and expecting to see an archive of previous posts written by the author it just shows a nothing found page.
This person has not published anything yet just one post drafted is this the reason for showing this nothing found page? Im using North Theme
Thanks
Andrew
Hey Andrew :)
Does the issue persist if you go to SettingsPermalinks and click Save?
Hay Andrew,
I tried doing this but it still shows the Nothing found page.
"Nothing Found
It seems we can’t find what you’re looking for. Perhaps searching can help"
Any change if you run the usual troubleshooting gauntlet?
1. Switch themes, any change?
2. Deactivate all non-SiteOrigin plugins, any change?
Hi Andrew
I tried disabling plugins and the usual steps but the same message appears.
It's only appearing for this new user the main administrator profile link works ok.
Perhaps take a look at the naming of the user account. Please, see: https://techwelkin.com/wordpress-solve-author-page-giving-404-error
Tried this Andrew but does not seem to work, if I did it correctly and I'm sure I did.
If the author doesn’t have much content added can you perhaps delete the account and create a new one?
Hey Andrew
I have created a new user a different person who is also going to be a contributor to the site and it has done the same thing with his user profile link.
I’m really puzzled now.
Thanks
Sorry, I don’t have any new ideas.
At this point I’d clear your cache if using a caching plugin.
Deactivate all plugins in one go.
Switch to a default theme.
Does the issue persist?
If so, with all plugins deactivated and a default theme activated, add a new user, does the issue persist?
There are some small differences in the above test that might have been missed in the original plugin conflict test.
Hi,
Honestly, this is a really tricky situation as what has been suggested should have worked. Especially the saving of the permalinks.
I'm sure I did it correctly, your welcome to take a look.
So the issue persists with cache cleared, all plugins deactivated including SiteOrigin plugins and a default theme like Twenty Seventeen activated?
I’ve added an extra step which is:
With all plugins deactivated and a default theme activated, add a new user, does the issue persist?
I tried disabling plugins and theme and no change only the admin user works.
I'm really puzzled now, I'm not 100% sure I did the phpmyadmin stage correctly as it's not something I have done before.
Thanks
Sorry mate, I’m pretty much out of ideas here. If the issue persists with no plugins activated a default theme activated then it’s a core issue. A lot of 404 errors can be resolved by resetting permalinks, but that didn’t help.
My idea which I’m not sure you did, I can’t tell from the above reply was to try and create a new user with all plugins “off” and a default theme enabled and see if that new user URL failed. That would let you know if the issue was ongoing. Did you try that test? So back to default and then add a new test user, same issue?
I tried setting up that second new user again also same thing.
If it's not to much trouble I would be greatful if you could check the phpmyadmin as mine was different from what the guide showed so I can't be 100% sure I did it correctly. I'll pay for the time.
Ok, thanks for trying. It was worth a shot.
Unfortunately, we aren’t able to assist directly with general WP troubleshooting like this. Codeable.io is one option for next level technical assistance. It might be worth reinstalling WP before doing that.
