Youtube Embeding for Responsive Theme

11 years ago · Last reply by Andrew Misplon 11 years ago

Hello,
When embedding youtube videos for 100% fluid layouts the fluid-width-video-wrapper class creates an undesirable effect and causes the video to embed at 100% of the column width. Is there anyway to ensure if the wordpress shortcode parameters for width are specified, the are honored?
Thanks,
Jaymz

    Hi Jaymz

    Thanks for running Vantage.

This is unfortunately a side effect of the FitVids script being run in the theme. FitVids handles the video responsive challenges as the video is viewed on different devices. We could de-register FitVids from the theme, is this something you’d like to do? We’d do it with a child theme.

Sure, I don’t think I will need it in WP 4.0. Thanks for the help.

Please try this child theme (below link), you can install via Appearance > Themes > Add New: Upload Theme. Activating this will reset all Customizer and Menu Location settings. If the child theme works for you, you’ll then need to redo those settings. I usually open the Customizer in the parent theme and then activate the child theme in another tab so I can manually copy the settings across.

Thank you very much, that worked. One item I noticed is that I am now missing one widget when the child theme is activated. I believe it is a widget that can only be activated once (it is the Vanilla Forum Discussion Widget). I re-activated the parent theme and deleted the widget, but to no avail. The widget is still missing from the child theme. All other widgets are available. Thoughts?

Do you know which plugin creates that widget? Are all the settings in that plugin the same when the child theme is activated as when the parent is activated?

    Sorry for the late reply.

Yes, it is the vanilla for wordpress plugin. https://wordpress.org/plugins/vanilla-forums/

Settings are the same. Strangely enough only one of the widgets the plugin creates has disappeared. The others are there. See screenshot.
