Hey so, I recently took on the project of figuring out what went wrong with a website, I admit I dont have a lot of familiarity with WordPress or Page Builder.
The website I was asked to edit when I made edits to the Visual/or Text field of wordpress the changes wouldn’t show up. I tried disabling all of the other plug ins and the only two that made a difference were the Page Builder ones (although it lost all of its formatting.)
I eventually dug through the revision history and figured out that three months or so ago, the gal who owned the site took over editing it and made an edit in WP that but not in Page Builder Content. The problem I’m having is I can’t seem to be able to figure out how to edit Page Builder Content. I tried watching a YouTube video, but the page I’m trying to edit looks nothing like the page in the YouTube video. It looks more like a traditional WordPress page with the visual and edit history fields.
I tried enabling Page Builder on Pages in setting. That didn’t work on the already existing page. I did notice that if I tried to create a new page the Page Builder tab does show up.
Any suggestions? Would my best bet be to revert the page? I figured I’d try to get advice since I don’t want to destroy something that I can’t easily fix since it’s not my own website.
Hi Samantha
Thanks for reaching out.
On any given page your content is either managed in the regular WordPress editor (Visual/Text) or in the Page Builder tab. You can’t work in both.
If you have content in Page Builder and click the Return to Editor button, Page Builder will warn you that you’re about to shift all of your content back to the regular WordPress editor and will lose all Page Builder formatting. Once that move has been made, back to the regular editor, it isn’t possible to move your content back into Page Builder without rebuilding it.
So, to confirm, once Page Builder content has been taken out of Page Builder and you’ve returned to the regular editor, there is no way of shifting it back into Page Builder again.
However, whether or not your content is being edited in Page Builder, the Page Builder tab should show up on all pages. Is that not happening?
One option might be to make use of site backups, if you have any, and roll back to the point that the shift out of Page Builder was made.
Hi, just pulling this from your new thread:
I try to clone a page, add columns, and click on widgets and nothing happens.
This is most likely due to a plugin conflict. If you deactivate all other plugins at once, does the same issue occur?
All other plugins meaning all plugins except for Page Builder by SiteOrigin. Thanks.
Hi Andrew,
Thanks. I’ll definitely pass that on to my contact, (the premium account). Yeah, so the WordPress or Page Builder makes sense. Do you think the Page Builder not working in general and the fact that it seems to be attempting to utilize WordPress and Page Builder at the same time, is the same issue?
I just re-checked and it doesn’t seem to be the other plug-ins. Since I still can’t add rows or use the widgets on New Pages where the Page Builder tab does appear. I went into Setting as well just to make sure Page Builder was fully active. It is…or is supposed to be.
Just figured I’d try to get a general sense before rolling back the pages where the mistake was made.
Thanks,
Samantha
Thanks for the feedback. Try the following:
1. Go to Dashboard > Updates and see if there is a Page Builder update pending, is there is, run it.
1. Switch to any default theme like Twenty Sixteen.
2. Go to Plugins and deactivate all plugins except for Page Builder.
This is now a vanilla WordPress setup, no plugins except Page Builder and using a default theme. If at this point you go to Pages > Add New, click on Page Builder and can’t add a row or add a widget, there is possibly an issue with the WordPress core on your server.
Hi Andrew,
Finally found time to check. The problem still persists when I switched to a generic template. Any tips on what might be wrong with the WordPress server core? (I did run the Premium account by my contact). In the meantime, if you could give me another moment if you have a moment, I’d appreciate it.
Samantha
Ok so to confirm, Page Builder was activated for the test, all other plugins were deactivated and a default theme was in use? Please, go to Dashboard > Updates, if there are any pending updates for the WordPress core or Page Builder, run them and then retry the test.
