WooCommerce plugin

I started with the Vantage free theme. I purchased the premium Advantage theme June 6. When I install the WooCommerce plugin now I do not get to choose Download the WooCommerce pages. I deleted the plugin that I had installed before upgrading to the premium theme and installed it again. I do not see that choice under settings either.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mary

When you removed the previous woo-commerce plugin did you also remove the pages added by that copy. If you left them in place then woo-commerce will detect that they already exist and not supply the prompt.

You can force the plugin to reinstall those pages by navigating to WooCommerce->System Status->Tools and clicking on the Install Pages Button.

Let us know how you get on

I am not sure if I had pages added by that copy deleted. I think so. Before I followed what you wrote I did have any pages connected to WooCommerce deleted. I clicked the Install Pages Button and it told me they had been installed. I then did a new Products page which I was able to do. I was not able to get a Cart Page or a Checkout Page. I looked in System Status and copied the following:
Shop Base #241-/Shop-3/ this was in a green color
Cart page does not contain the short code [woocommerce_cart]
Checkout Page does not contain the shortcode [woocommerce_checkout]

On other pages I am seeing: In order for database caching to work with WooCommerce you must add -wc-session- to the “Ignored Query Strings ” in W3 Total Cache settings. I don’t think this applies to the problem.

When I downloaded the Vantage theme I tried a new product and the pages worked because I was able to choose install pages in the plugin download. I upgraded to the Vantage Premium and it seems the problem started then.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mary

The W3 total cache would apply to this problem It may well be serving pages cached from the earlier install. Please try clearing the cache and test again. If this still produces errors please try disabling the cache plugin. If this does fix the issue then you will need to add the required query string to the w3 excludes.

I deactivited the cache plugin. I remember clearing the cache when it asked before. I talked to my host provider and they raised the php to 128. I made sure I had no pages active that would deal with products and tried again. I can enter a product o.k. but I can not see it on a cart page or checkout page. It tells me the page can’t be found. The System Status still has the message that the cart and checkout page is missing the shortcode I mentioned before. This last time I clicked on install pages in the system tool bar and the message was they were installed successfully. I am wondering if upgrading to Vantage Premium has caused me the problem.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mary Harrower

It would not have been caused by the upgrade to vantage premium. Could you please try this for me.

    Navigate to Pages.

Delete the following pages and remove them from the trash.

    Cart
    Checkout
    My Account
    Shop

Reinstall the pages from WooCommerce->System Status->Tools and test again.

Do you have a public URL where we can take a look at what’s going on? If you need to keep this URL private from other users, just select “Private Reply” on the bottom right of the comment box.

    Thanks

    Hi,

I received an email from Woo Themes suggesting that I go to the trash and recover the pages I created before and then use the WC create pages in the System Status Tools. I thought I would try this before getting back to you. I did this and did a new Product page like before and when I went to the home page I had the Cart and the Checkout pages in the menu and they worked. I did not have a Store or Shop in the menu that worked but they were there. So before I try what you suggest of removing from the trash I thought I’d better check in with you. The URL is fitterfun.fatcow.com/wp-admin. We also have a site on Fat Cow called Fitter Fun but that is the one we will take down after getting this one done. This site is just in the beginning stages. Thank you so much for your help.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mary

Hopefully I’m following, if you’ve successfully retrieved your WooCommerce pages from the trash then there is no need to create them again using the System Status Tools.

Are there any outstanding items you’d like assistance with?

    Thanks :)

When I went into the trash to restore the pages the cart and checkout pages showed up in the menu on the home page. I have not tried the suggestion of removing the cart, checkout, my account and shop pages from the trash. It seems like this is the next step. I don’t seem to have a shop page. What is happening now is I go to Products and create a product. I publish the page. It shows the product, price and text and says view in cart. If I click view in cart it does not take me to a cart page. The only way I can see what’s in the cart is to go up to the menu and click. That is the only place I can see the Checkout page. If I click on shop in the menu it doesn’t go to the Product page I created. It seems I need to delete every WooCommerce page from the trash and try to start over.
    Any other suggestions? Thank you.

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for the feedback. WooCommerce pages are pretty basic, they have a page title and in the page content a shortcode like:

    [woocommerce_cart]

    for the cart page.

So feel free to experiment. Restore your pages in the trash and then go to Pages, take a look at the list and make sure you have everything you need. You can delete, restore, add, etc. All can be fixed. The most important thing right now is for there to be a list of the pages you need displayed under Pages in WordPress, not in the trash. Let’s get that setup and go from there.

Here is the list of WooCommerce shortcodes, just for interest sake: http://docs.woothemes.com/document/woocommerce-shortcodes/.

In Pages in WordPress I see Cart, Checkout and Shop. We will only have one book for sale so we don’t need Account. These pages show up in the menu and if I click on Cart, I can see the one item I created under new Products. I can click on Checkout in the menu and see the checkout page. When I click on Shop it goes to a page that has nothing on it but has the title Shop.
When I entered the Product I can see the book with the description, price etc. I can click Add to Cart. I cannot view the Cart while I’m on the page. I have to go to the menu. Same with Checkout, I have to go to the menu.

In the System Status for WooCommerce it has Shop Base #241-/shop-3/ in a green color it still says Cart Page does not contain the shortcode [Woocommerce_cart] and for Checkout same thing [woocommerce_checkout].
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mary

Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look? You can create the account with the following email address:

    [email protected]

Just navigate to Users > Add New in your WordPress admin. Enter siteorigin for the username and [email protected] for the email address. Make sure you’ve selected Administrator for the role and enabled the “Send Password” field so we receive the details.

Once we’re finished taking a look, you can delete this account. We’ll let you know when to do that.

    Hi Mary

There were some incorrect settings in your woocommerce settings under product and checkout. I have corrected these and the pages now display correctly.

Let us know if you need any more help with this

    Hi,
You are a miracle man! It seems to work! I went in to settings and I could see that the messages for the cart page and the checkout page no longer say the shortcode is missing. Believe me I am not touching anything! Just before this email arrived I had heard from Andrew and I created a temporary admin account for him. I will reply back to him and tell him the problem seems to be fixed. Thank you very much for your time and effort.

After sending you the email regarding a temporary admin account I received an email from Magus saying that he found some settings that were wrong and that he had fixed them. Everything seems to work. I am really grateful that you both took the time and effort to help with this problem. Thanks again.

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for the update Mary. Really glad to hear Magus was able to resolve and that you’re up and running.

All the best with your site :)

I have one more question as long as you can take a look at the web site. When I click on the Shop in the menu I see the photo of the book, the price but no description. When I did a new product I had the description, photo and the price. I hope to be able to change the photo to a smaller size. I am afraid to try to make changes as I don’t want to mess things up. Thanks.

    Hi, I Work Here

As far as I know, WooCommerce doesn’t display a product description on the overview/products/archive page. It is possible but would require custom development services. We recommend the service https://codeable.io if you are interested.

    Image sizes are available at:

WooCommerce > Settings > Products > Display > Product Images

If you do change any of the dimensions listed you’ll need to run the following plugin to have the changes applied:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/

Once activated you run the plugin from Tools > Regen Thumbnails.

Thank you. I will give that a try.
