Widgets bundle crashing Page builder on certain pages in WordPress

Hey guys, I’m having an issue where I cannot edit & update certain pages in WordPress as all the rows and widgets are missing. All other pages work just fine.

I’ve tried disabling all plugins and enabling them one by one and found out that the SO Widget bundle is causing all rows to disappear.

What should I do? Please help. (I am a novice wordpress user and may not fully understand complex instructions.)

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Ilyas,

Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this crash occurs? I ask because this will verify if this issue is directly SietOrigin Widgets Bundle, or another plugin having issues with the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle. You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If the crash no longer occurs, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing issues with the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

    Hi Alex,

I did just that last time, I deactivated all plugins including both SO and non-SO and cleared all cash, cookies and other data.

I then activated the Page Builder plugin and attempted to edit the page I was having problems with: the page builder worked fine but it was missing some widgets; the layout builder widget that I use a lot on that page.

I also repeated the whole process again just now.

As soon as I activate the SO Widgets Bundle it crashes the Page builder leaving no rows and widgets on that page.

I am using the Sydney theme. How do I temporarily switch to a standard WP theme and will it in any way affect any content on my website?

    Hi Ilyas,

So, to confirm, if the only plugins activated are SiteOrigin Page Builder and the Siteorigin Widgets Bundle, does this issue occur? I know this issue no longer occurs if you disable the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle while all plugins are active but that aligns with the fact that this is a general plugin, not that SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle is the only plugin causing it.

I am using the Sydney theme. How do I temporarily switch to a standard WP theme and will it in any way affect any content on my website?

Changing theme is perfectly safe – you will not lose any settings by doing this. With that said, I don’t think changing theme will help as Sydney is a good theme.

Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and run some tests for you?

Yes that is correct, the problem remained when the SO page builder and widgets bundle were the only two active plugins at the time. The issue does not occur when the page builder is the only running plugin and it crashes whenever I activate the widgets bundle plugin.

I have just tried activating all other plugins except for the widgets bundle plugin and the problem is still there for some reason.

Yes Sydney is quite popular and it worked just fine all this time.

I just added you following all instructions you mentions, you should receive all the info soon.

    Hi Ilyas,

Okay, so the only page I was able to see was the Easy18 updates page. There’s a PHP error at the bottom of the markup that suggests the page has run out of memory.

You need to apply a pretty hands on fix to resolve this issue. This article would be a good read as it’ll outline how to change it. You’ll need to edit wp-config.php. If you’re unfamiliar with FTP, I would recommend asking your hosting provider for help with editing this file.

Thnx so much! It makes perfect sense now, the Layout Builder widget has too many media files (my boss is asking me to upload daily pictures and videos from the construction site on there) which is probably why I couldn’t edit the page.

I’ll definitely contact my hosting provider for help on this. Thnx so much!

    Hi again,

A member of the Hostgator support team had a look at my issue and told me that the PHP memory limit was set to 256MB. He tried a bunch of other methods to get the page builder and widgets back and changing the php version to 7.0 from 5.6 did the job, I was able to see the page builder and widgets as well as edit and update the page!

I then tried to reactivate all other plugins one by one (except for the Page Builder and Widgets Bundle which were the only active plugins at the time) and eventually got the fatal error message back after activating the Yoast SEO plugin for some reason.

But deactivating Yoast SEO, clearing all cache and data did not solve the issue. Now, the same issue appears every time I am trying to activate one single plugin (Page Builder) after deactivating all plugins and deleting cache. Any ideas why that might be happening?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Ilyas,

Ah. Sorry, I didn’t realize your memory limit was so high – yeah that’s definitely not a memory limit issue in that case.
So, to confirm, are you stating this issue happens regardless of what plugins are active now (even if the only active plugins are SiteOrigin Page Builder and the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundlder)? If so, that’s odd! Can I create a backup of your website for local testing? This will allow me to make large changes to your website in an attempt to identify the issue without it actually affecting your website. If so, can you please create me another account?
