I have a video which I like to have so people can understand what we do from the homepage. I set it up and it seemed to be working very well, however, it now isn’t but I can’t remember what I did to change it so now it only show the video’s URL. Any tips welcome, currently the widgets are self hosted video and embeded video.
Why is my video not displaying?
This is our free support forum. Replies can take several days. If you need fast email support, please purchase a SiteOrigin Premium license.
Also, is there a way I can redownload the theme as I’d like to reinstall it?
Hi Daniel
Thanks for reaching out.
Perhaps try inserting your video using the Visual Editor widget. It has an Add Media button that will let you insert a self-hosted video in the same way that you would on a regular page.
To download the premium ZIP please check your original order email from SiteOrigin, the download link is listed there. If you’d like to resend your order email, that can be done from here: https://siteorigin.com/orders/.
Re-installing the theme won’t reset theme settings, a quick heads up there.
Hi Andrew,
The issue with using the visual editor is that it removes all the widgets I created using the site builder
Regards,
Daniel
Thanks for the feedback. I’m specifically referring to the Visual Editor widget, to get access to that you need the following plugin installed:
http://wordpress.org/plugins/black-studio-tinymce-widget/
Hey Andrew,
I’ve done that but as you can see it doesn’t look great and doesn’t work very well with the site loading speed. Do you know why it went wrong? Or if there’s ways to fix problems with this method of inserting the vidoe?
Regards,
Daniel
Mmm ok, sorry that didn’t work. At least you know that widget is an option now :)
Can you let me know how the video was previously inserted? What widget did you use?
Another option would be:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/so-widgets-bundle/
Once activated go to Plugins > SiteOrigin Widgets and activate our brand new Video Widget. To insert it, be sure to insert the SiteOrigin Video Widget, it has a blue icon next to it in the add widget window.
I think that could be the best solution.
Hi Andrew,
I can’t remember which widget it was exactly but it was either Embedded Video (PB) or Self Hosted Video (PB).
Regards,
Daniel
Got you. Won’t you please try the SiteOrigin Video widget I mentioned above. It’s brand new, should be the best we have to offer.
Hi there,
.i have installed the widget but it isn’t displaying on my iPad and it’s not displaying correctly on my laptop
Thanks,
Daniel
Thanks for the feedback. Ok, I see the preview image isn’t showing. Otherwise the video seems to be loading and playing ok.
If you aren’t already, please can you try manually setting a cover image, there is a setting for that in the widget. If that doesn’t work then we’ll need to switch back to the Embedded Video (PB) widget and try diagnose the problem of it rendering as a link.
Hi Andrew,
I’ve added cover image but it doesn’t really seem to be doing much good.
I’d be happy to send you a message with a temp admin account so you can play around with yourself if you feel it’d be easier?
Regards,
Daniel
Hi Daniel
Yeah, I think that’ll be best. I had hoped to sort this out with my first answer, that’s why I didn’t try diagnose the original problem. If you could please send through a set of login details, that’ll be great. I’ll send instructions through now.
Thanks :)
Hi Daniel
Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look? You can create the account with the following email address:
[email protected]
Just navigate to Users > Add New in your WordPress admin. Enter siteorigin for the username and [email protected] for the email address. Make sure you’ve selected Administrator for the role and enabled the “Send Password” field so we receive the details.
Once we’re finished taking a look, you can delete this account. We’ll let you know when to do that.
Hi Andrew,
I have added your account to the users as an admin, please message me if there’s any issues.
Regards,
Daniel
Thanks :) I’m unfortunately not seeing any login details here. Could you perhaps reply with the username and password. Check the private reply checkbox to the bottom right of the comment field when posting. Apologies for the hassle.

Hello, Andrew?
Apologies for the delay. We’re a little under water at the moment but fighting to get back on top. I’ll dive in here shortly.
Ok cool, just wanted to ensure you hadn’t forgotten about me. :)
Thanks again for the wait. We’re starting to get back on our feet. I tried a few times to login with the details sent. My password isn’t working. Could you perhaps check that out? We’ll be on till late.
Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the wait. Please see the following: http://imagetopainting.com/test-page/. That seems to work nicely for me on both desktop and mobile.
Hi Andrew,
Do you know why it’s not working for the homepage?
Regards,
Daniel
Not sure. Let me try it there now.
Yew, think we found the problem.

Please try turning RocketLoader off if you are using CloudFlare. It seems like it might be the problem:
Rocket Loader is not included in any WordPress plugins. You would have to disable Rocket Loader by going to: settings->CloudFlare settings (Performance Settings)->Rocket Loader->Toggle Off (this feature is optional and has to be turned on).
Hi Andrew,
I have reinstalled the front page widget, disabled RocketLoader and cleared my cache on the website and my web browser. None of it seems to be working. Could it be working on your side?
Regards,
Daniel
It might in someway relate to your CDN. The necessary script isn’t loading on the home page. On the test page the following is being loaded:
On the home page, nothing. Not sure what else we could test right now. One option might be to test without CloudFlare.
Ok thanks for your help so far.
Let us know how you come along.
Hi Andrew,
I disabled cloudflare and most of my plugins. Reinstalled the widget and this is what happened. What am I doing wrong?
Regards,
Daniel
Hi Daniel
This issue often comes up because of the oEmbed cache. What happens is that if the oEmbed system in WordPress fails, it still stores the result (which is just a URL) in the cache. Can you test this by trying to embed a different video and checking if that works?
If so, you’d need to clear the oEmbed cache. Unfortunately this isn’t a very easy process, but we’ve written a guide on this – Page: Clearing oEmbed Cache.
We’ll look at something to handle this automatically for our widgets in the future.
Hi Daniel
If you haven’t started on the above, please wait one. We’re not sure. Just looking at a few things. Be with you ASAP.
Our new video widget uses http://mediaelementjs.com/, as does WordPress. There is a chance we’re seeing an issue with the video’s .mov format. Do you perhaps want to export it into another format, re-upload and try with the new format?
Hi Andrew,
I have converted the .mov into a .mp4 file. It loads fine on my laptop but the controls just don’t appear. I have to right click and select ‘Show controls’.
Really appreciate your level of support.
Regards,
Daniel
Thanks, quick response, appreciate it!
Phew, ok, same problem. Could you perhaps try this for us:
1. De-activate all plugins except for SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle and Page Builder.
2. Ensure CloudFlare isn’t being used.
3. Re-test the test page to start with. I’ve now got no cover image and I’m using MP4.
http://imagetopainting.com/test-page/
Let me know how that goes.
(If you need a quick fix, putting this video on YouTube would resolve the problem. I tested that out yesterday. We’d love to fix this. Just mentioning this if you’d like to move on).
Sorry Daniel. One more time. If you haven’t started yet. Hold off. We’re diving in deeper. So sorry we couldn’t fix right away. Got everyone on this right now.
Hi Andrew,
Really appreciate your help.
Daniel
I think we’ve figured out where things went wrong from the start.
To deal with a bunch of small bugs we recently migrated the Self Hosted Video Widget (PB) from JW Player to ME Player which WordPress uses. The downside was that we lost the ability to play MOV format. That’s why your video started showing up a link.
Since you’ve migrated your video over to MP4, I’ve re-added it using the Self Hosted Video (PB) widget and it works by the looks of it. You might just need to add your cover image as JPG to get a white background.
I tried to fix with Visual Editor widget and then SiteOrigin Video Widget. Both don’t play MOV. We then moved to MP4 and uncovered a bug in the SiteOrigin Video Widget. We’ll fix that in an update new week.
Thanks so much for your help. Hopefully we’re resolved now.
Hi Andrew,
Any news on when MP4 files will play on the iPad? My movie plays fine on my desktop and iPhone.
Thank you.
Hi hf
SiteOrigin video widgets previously used jPlayer. Due to a few issues with jPlayer they are now using Media Element, the same player that WordPress uses. This unfortunately means that there is no MOV support BUT there should already be MP4 support. If you’d like to open a new thread we can look into the problems you’re experiencing with MP4s:
