Dear all,
I’m optimizing my website regarding webP-format of images and I have recognized that your widget Post Carousel doesn’t show selected images in webP-format. My WP-library is complete convertet to webP-format and WP and/or other plugins show this new format automatical as well.
Unfortunately there is no way to set or to say to your widget which kind of format have to use.
Please, have you got an idea how could I solve this issue? Otherwise I have to deactivate the widget because the standard png-format take a lot of resources by page painting (even using a CDN-Service).
Thanks a lot in advance for your answer!

Hi Ernesto
Thanks for getting in touch.
We can try to replicate your setup and go from there. How have you enabled WebP to be uploaded to the Media Library?
Hello Andrew,
I used W3 Total Cache to convert the entire WP-library in webP-format.
I have now in the Library original formats (jpeg, png) and webP-format and each webp-image is associated to the original format (i’m Not sure but i think, WP uses these internal connections painting images in this lighter format). For your Information, I haven’t set any other Parameter . It seems that WP takes the webP-format automatically as long as it can do it.
Unfortunately, not all Plugins do the same. In few cases, I had to select manually the webP-format of the Image (es. using Smart Slider 3) or in Dome js-scripts wehre are paths defined with .png or .jpeg Extension.
Please, let me know if you need more Information about. Thanks a lot for your appreciated Interest!
Kind Regards
Ernesto
Hi Ernesto
Thanks for the details and further information. As far as I know, it’s not currently possible to upload WebP via MediaAdd New in WordPress, which is most likely why this hasn’t been looked at yet. Unfortunately, I can’t directly assist from the support side of things. However, I have sent Alex a request at SiteOrigin to log a feature request.
Hi Andrew,
thanks a lot for your quick answer and the forwarding of this issue.
In the meantime I will temporarily exclude the SiteOrigin Carousel to maintain a good ranking by Google Page-Speed test and I gladly await any news from SiteOrigin‘s development.
Have a nice weekend !

Hi Ernesto,
I’ve run a few tests locally, and I’ve been able to set a WebP image to display without issue for the Post Carousel widget. The Post Carousel widget uses the image that’s assigned as the featured image so if that image isn’t a WebP, the Post Carousel won’t be able to display it as one either – it makes no alterations to the file itself, it displays it as is.
If that featured image is a WebP image, and it’s still not displaying it as expected, do you perhaps have a public URL where we can take a closer look at your Post Carousel? If you don’t, please consider creating a test page where we can inspect this.
Kind regards,
Alex
