Videos

What is the best plugin to manage videos? I want to produce some short videos and add them to my website. I will need stop, pause, immediate play, control once or repeat, and other such stff. I may add some to a slider too.

What do you recommend?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Strifemit,

I would use the base video functionality included with WordPress. This functionality can be easily accessed with the SiteOrigin Video Player widget included in the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle. You can also directly use something like the Video shortcode.

There are video management plugins you can use but I personally wouldn’t use any unless you intended to have hundreds of videos present as the base WordPress management interface is fine.

Thanks for your reply Alex. That should work for me but I am still waiting for a response from siteorigin before I commit because a lot of providers promise but don’t deliver. Consultant looks as if it will suit me and all the addons look good. I tried loading consultant pack using siteorigin installer to test it but it cocked up my test and live sites. Fortunately I did have backups and now need an install that doesn’t muck up my live website. When I have my new site setup it will replace the current live site. I am waiting for someone to get back to me on it. I want some more information on the consultant pack. In the meantime no point in premium support for something I haven’t got yet.

PS – Have you considered there are single people, married people and companies. Why not have a married (2 websites) premium?

    Hi Strifemit,

I tried loading consultant pack using siteorigin installer to test it but it cocked up my test and live sites.

Hm. Did you install the site pack on an existing website? If so, the site packs must be installed in a fresh environment so they will erase all existing data (this is why we have you type in Accept so you’re aware of this). it’s also not currently compatible with Multisite (we don’t allow for the installer to run).

What specifically went wrong after the import?

That should work for me but I am still waiting for a response from siteorigin before I commit because a lot of providers promise but don’t deliver.

I am SiteOrigin’s main support member. What specifically would you like to know?

I’ve forwarded your suggestion to Greg.

Okay I’ve checked video shortcode and that looks pretty straight forward.

Currently I have the live site with all the content. The test website is clear because I guess it did that after I entered Accept. That’s no problem. So there are no pages or posts.

The test website has WPinked Widgets, Akismet, All in one WP Security, Child Theme Configurator, Livemesh SiteOrigin, Widgets, Page Builder by SiteOrigin, SiteOrigin CSS, SiteOrigin Importer [Consultant], SiteOrigin Installer, SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle and Widgets for SiteOrigin. North is the active theme.

I have a copy of my website within the same file structure so I can work on one without affecting the other. Current bestepeople.com and the test is test.bestepeople.com. I have not progressed until I fix this install problem.

I have tried several different options such as Divi, Extra 3.0 and others including paying for the premium. I chose to get refunds because they were not as good as stated. I am trying to answer my questions before I go ahead to avoid this again. I have watched every video I could find on SiteOrigin. Some are very good but in general also very skimpy. From what I have seen and the information on consultant it looks like it might be the best fit for the design I have in my head. I need to download the Consultant pack and test my thoughts.

I also would like some clarity on what is included in the license. Say I purchase a one site license, what do I get? What is included? Are the additional plugin set another license? If I change my partner’s site do I have to upgrade to 5 sites? I am retired and not a business any more so I have to be responsible with expenses. If I purchase a license can I pay annually because I never leave permission anywhere for automatic renewal for my own personal security and control. Same with hosting, phone, broadband, etc, all paid manually.

Now the question is how to update my test.bestepeople.com without affecting my live website? The new one shouldn’t take long because a lot of the data is already there and I can create the starter and then copy the rest bit by bit.

If it is quicker for you to check online to see how I can load it is no problem. If getting going is easier by email is quicker then [email protected].

Does email support come with email? And what else is included. Hope I’ve covered everything and it is clear.

Alex, I am hoping you can get me off the starting block.

    Hi Strifemit,

I also would like some clarity on what is included in the license. Say I purchase a one site license, what do I get? What is included? Are the additional plugin set another license?

Everything outlined on the Download: SiteOrigin Premium product page is included in the plugin. This means additional premium functionality and premium support.

If I change my partner’s site do I have to upgrade to 5 sites?

If you wish to use SiteOrigin Premium on that website, yes. it should be noted that SiteOrigin Premium isn’t required to use our page builder as the plugin itself is free.

If I purchase a license can I pay annually because I never leave permission anywhere for automatic renewal for my own personal security and control. Same with hosting, phone, broadband, etc, all paid manually.

This is possible through the SiteOrigin Single Year License. It costs slightly more though. For information on pricing please click the Buy Now button and Single Year License button.

Now the question is how to update my test.bestepeople.com without affecting my live website? The new one shouldn’t take long because a lot of the data is already there and I can create the starter and then copy the rest bit by bit.

Based on how you’ve set things up, installing the site pack on the test website shouldn’t affect the main website. Are the websites connected somehow? Are you using Multisite? What exactly happened when you ran the SiteOrigin Import installer? How did it affect your main website?

I tried it twice. The first time it stuck on step 2 out of 44. The second time and third time it stuck on step 14 out of 44. I also noticed it kept asking me to sign in.

I can sign in to both sites separately.

I have a picture of the file structure. I think the passwords is a common file though.

      Hi, I Work Here

      Hi Strifemit,

Thanks. That sounds like the importer has somehow failed. While bad, we can recover from this and proceed forward. Before doing so I need to know how your main website was affected by doing this so I can assure this doesn’t happen again. We can proceed now, but until I work out why (or rather what) happened to your main site after you ran the importer on your test site, I can’t guarantee there won’t be further issues.

      Does that make sense?
In other words, I really need to know how your main website was affected by the importer.

Alex I found these and realise now they are for SiteOrigin and by SiteOrigin https://wpinked.com/downloads/widgets-for-siteorigin-pro/#buy-now. I assume I don’t need these and should probably remove them?

      Hi, I Work Here

      Hi Strifemit,

That’s a third party product you linked to and is unrelated to SietORigin Premium. That page is for the premium version of Widgets for SiteOrigin.

You don’t need the upgraded version of this plugin unless you’re specifically after the premium version includes. I’m a fan of most of the widgets that plugin adds so I would keep it around but it’s up to you if you wish to do that or not.

I’ve paid for one site now lets get this thing going.

Alex I have uploaded the premium plugins. Now all I need is the Consultant theme plus the content and to load is safely. Thanks.
