Vantage theme seems to be overriding WooCommerce settings

Hi Site Origin, I have been so happy with your Vantage theme for years now, and have run in to a very frustrating problem I hope you can help me with. You guys have a great product, and I really don’t want to switch themes.

I have been trouble shooting all day, and For the life of me, I cannot get my woocommerce shop pages to display more than 2 products per row. I think it has to be something in the Vantage theme overriding the Woocommerce settings. I’ve tried setting and resetting all the proper woocommerce channels, I’ve tried an additional woocommerce plugin (Woocommerce Products Per Page) specifically for helping this very issue for non wc themes. I’ve obviously tried editing the theme settings thru the simple customiser editor, where I can specify the number of columns and rows, and it works for a second, and then reverts back as soon as I click another button. And When I switch themes, the problem goes away, which is another reason I’m thinking it has to be somewhere in Vantage. I’ve tried clearing ALL of the caches several times, doing all of the checks on a new incognito window each time, I’ve ran several compatibility tests with no red flags or overrides listed. For all intents and purposes, it says Vantage and Woocommerce are working perfectly, but it just keeps reverting back to 2 large images per row. They blow themselves up, and get blurry, which isn’t attractive, and it just isn’t a good browsing experience.

Any idea where I can check to see where the override might be happening?

If it’s not an override, do you know what it is?

Is there short code or Custom CSS I can put somewhere that would tell it to honor the woocommerce plugin and/or customiser settings? If, so where would I put it? (specifically needing 3 or 4 per row)

It seems like it should be a pretty easy fix, but I just can’t seem to find it.

Thanks much for any help you can give! If it’s helpful, my shop link is: https://www.whitneyjayne.com/shop/

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Whitneyjayne,

Can you please temporarily increase the column count so I can inspect the resulting issue? You can do this by navigating to WP AdminAppearanceCustomize, WooCommerceProduct Catalogue and adjust the Products Per Row setting.

Is there short code or Custom CSS I can put somewhere that would tell it to honor the woocommerce plugin and/or customiser settings?

    Unfortunately, no, that’s not possible.

    Hi Alex,

Thanks so much for looking at this. So the column count is currently set at 3 (and was set at 3 or 4 when I started the thread). When I am in the customizer, and change the column number, it will make the changes and display in the customizer as though it has been changed. I will then publish the changes and clear the caches, then go view again in a cognito window, but it will always still display live as only 2 columns. When I go back in to the customizer, the customizer also only displays 2 columns even though the settings have not changed and it’s still set to 3 columns (or whatever number I last put in). I can change the column number again, and it will display as though it’s made the changes again, but it will immediately revert back to displaying 2 if I publish or navigate anywhere else in the customizer. It never changes the number I designate, only how it displays.

Even though I’m clearing the caches, would there possibly a setting I should be double checking? I use W3 Total Cache.

Am I correct in thinking it’s likely the Vantage/WooCommerce code/integration somewhere (given that other themes seem to work) or a caching setting that’s over-riding it?

Not sure if it’s helpful, but my gut tells me it has to be something between the Vantage and WooCommerce integration because I also use a catalog on my site with different display options that I can choose to have display in a grid with more than 2 columns with no problem.

    Thanks again,
    Whitney

Oh P.S. The Product category search widget doesn’t seem to be working either. If you click on the ‘Art Categories’ drop down, and try to search, nothing happens. In addition, I added the widget to the SHOP (not he sidebar or footer), but it seems to be adding a sidebar anyway, and throwing it in there. Not sure if this would also be related to the way Vantage and Woocommerce are integrating?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Whitneyj,

Hm. To confirm, did you clear you’re all of the W3 Total Caches (including your minify)? If so, can you please temporarily disable your minify settings so I can take a look at your CSS? I ask because while minify is active it’s not possible to track down where CSS is coming from, only that it’s present.

    HI Alex,

Apologies for the delay. But yes, I had cleared the minify cache. I’ve cleared it again as well as the database cache, and disabled it, and once I did that, the store layout seems to be working. Does this mean I need to leave it disabled, or is there way I can utilize it without throwing things out of wack?

    Hi Whitneyjayne,

    Huh. That’s odd – I wasn’t expecting that!
Please temporarily re-enable the minify cache (be sure to clear it again). We haven’t received any other reports of issues with the W3 Total Cache minify so we suspect this may be just a general hiccup that will sort itself out once enabled again.
