Hi, great themes and page builder many thanks.
Since update to WP 4.9.1 the right hand attributes panel fails to load when editing a widget inside a row ie a text or image widget – it remains as a grey box with the loading circle going round and round.
On occasions the right hand attributes load but the editing panel does not load – again just a grey box with loading symbol.

What is strange is that if editing just a row the right hand attributes load perfectly.

This is problem has started happening on several installs on different domains after 4.9.1

All SiteOrigin plugin and bundles are up to date.

Any help appreciated

Many thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Long-list,

    This sounds like it could be a plugin conflict issue. Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

    If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

    Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

    If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

    Hello Alex many thanks for your support I appreciate it very much.

    Hello again Alex
    I read as many forum posts as possible before posting – I have tried disabling plugins and clearing cache on several occasions but it does not solve the issue of the right hand panel not loading.

    I set up clean install in a new directory using WP 4.9.1 the Vantage Theme and just the Site Origin plugins – Site Origin Page Builder, Site Origin CSS and Site Origin Widgets Bundle. I added two rows to page builder – then added the Site Origin Image Widget to one and the Site Origin Text Widget to the other – neither load the right hand attributes panel – just displaying the continuous loading circle.

    Interestingly I have sites that I stopped from upgrading to WP 4.9.1 – they are running on WP 4.8.4 and Page Builder and its widgets all still working perfectly. All sites are running on the same server with the same hosting package.

    I am thinking it could be a hosting issue but cant think what could stop the attributes in 4.9.1 loading when 4.8.4 is ok

    Your thoughts very much appreciated – many many thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Long-list,

    Thanks. Your reply suggests this is likely a server issue. I can also confirm that no one else has reported this issue so this also suggests there’s something specific to your website causing this issue.

    Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look?

    Many thanks Alex – I have set up the admin user hopefully you have received the link and pass

    Hello again Alex – following your comments I raised a ticket with the hosting company – they said there were memory problems and increased the site memory then gave me a link to the site php info – I can give you think if it would help to see the server details – it is over my head so it doesn’t mean much to me! However, the increased memory does not solve the original problem of the attributes panel not loading ….. appreciate your further advice when you have a moment – many thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Long-list,

    Unfortunately, we haven’t received the email from your website. Can you please recreate the account? For reference, you’ll receive an email when we receive the email.

    I don’t think this issue is related to memory as it likely would have stopped when you ran the plugin conflict and it would be a tad more inconsistent in where this issue appears.

    Hello again Alex – I have set up another clean install and added you as admin – I received the new user registration so hopefully you will have the link and all details – I hope you can spot what the server issue may be – many thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Long-list,

    Thanks. I was able to log in without issue. I can’t see any obvious reasons why this may be happening. Can I please create a backup of your website for local testing? Your website is very slow to load the editor. Are you experiencing the same thing? To clarify, who are you hosted with?

  12. 7 years, 6 months ago Long-list

    Hello Alex,
    There is no content on the test site where you have the login so there is nothing to break – you can add delete change anything you wish it will not be an issue, back up or just test as you require. The left hand editor panel usually loads quickly, on occasions it can be slow.

    The site is hosted with eukHost in the Uk.

    I have other WP sites hosted on the same server that are running on WP 4.8.4 and still work perfectly with page builder –
    the issue only started after upgrade to WP 4.9.1

    Thanks again for all your help.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Long-list,

    Thanks. I’ve been able to backup your website and it works without issue locally. Unfortunately, this suggests it’s a server issue. Can you please enable WP_DEBUG and WP_DEBUG_LOG This will require editing wp-config.php.

  14. 7 years, 6 months ago Long-list

    Many thanks Alex – I have updated the WP-config as below – but at the moment I don’t see a debug.log file anywhere in the directory, or any errors or warnings on the page

    * @link https://codex.wordpress.org/Debugging_in_WordPress
    */
    define(‘WP_DEBUG’, true);

    // Enable Debug logging to the /wp-content/debug.log file
    define( ‘WP_DEBUG_LOG’, true );

    // Disable display of errors and warnings
    define( ‘WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY’, true );

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Long-list,

    To clarify, have you tried opening the widget again? If so, that suggests this failing before WordPress. I would ask your hosting provider to double check everything is correctly set up with this domain. Also, I would ask for a copy of any error_logs if possible.

  16. 7 years, 6 months ago Long-list

    Thanks Alex – I have suggested to the hosts that there is some sort of misconfiguration in the hosting set up – but as with all hosts they are reluctant to admit anything – yes I opened the widget again after editing the config – but there are no visible error messages or warnings – I will ask the host for the error log. If it is possible to spot a problem that I can direct them towards rather than a vague enquiry that would be a big step forward! Once again many thanks for your time on this problem I really appreciate it.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Long-list

    Unfortunately, I’m not too sure what could be causing this issue. I do however note that I’ve seen a number of 500 errors for simple requests (such as a request for the favicon.ico) on your website so they must have a log of these errors somewhere. I would ask them if they do and if they don’t, can they start logging them.

  18. 7 years, 6 months ago Long-list

    Many thanks for your continued support Alex – I received a reply from support that they did not see any errors in the logs but would not send them to me. However I logged back into the site and miraculously the right hand attributes panel loaded perfectly and quickly –

    I thought they must have fixed something – so I went to another domain (same server) running Vantage and Site Origin page builder – right hand attributes panel still broken – I cleared cache and took screen shots of both working and non working attributes and sent to support – they maintain that they did not do anything –

    This morning I log into the site with the original problem – and right hand attributes are broken again and dont load anymore.

    I am getting rather stone walled by support because I dont know the right questions to ask – they just keep sending screen shots of the live site and saying it works fine…..

    If you can suggest questions to ask to get helpful info I would really appreciate it – (I have complained to them about the 500 errors previously)

    Thanks again Alex – I really hope we can get this resolved

    Hello again Alex – this may be useful if you come across this problem in future – the host has admitted to a resource issue as below – they have allocated more resources and it all works properly (however only on a temporary basis!!)
    What do you make of their suggestion to work with the developers to optimize themes and plugins? Also why they would have to optimize a database that has no content – I have no idea – I would value your thoughts on their comments
    Many, many, thanks

    =======

    As per the above errors your website is requiring more resources than alloted to it and hence you are facing the issue. For now I have optimized your database and increased the resources temporary on the account and it is working fine without any issues, Please refer below logs for your confirmation :

    I would recommend you to optimize your themes and plugins with the help of your website developer. This will resolve your issue permanently.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Long-list,

    How many websites are on your hosting plan? Do you have any bigger websites (in terms of how much content is present)? I ask as the website you gave me access is too small to hit any sort of resource cap but if you have a few large websites its possible you’re hitting a resource limit. Due to all of your websites sharing the same resources, it makes sense for one website that’s too big to negatively affect your other (much smaller) websites.

    To clarify, he’s basically telling you to reduce the number of plugins which isn’t exactly possible on the site you created me an account on.

    Hello again Alex,
    I think we can call this issue resolved for now.

    My hosting package has unlimited domains and bandwidth, so it should not run into memory issues – I am now wrangling with the host to increase the default memory allocation across the whole shared server, otherwise they are not fulfilling their advertised hosting obligations!

    Thank you again for all your time and input – it has been invaluable in sorting out these problems.

    I am pleased to say that I will be taking out a premium subscription early in next year.

    Very Best Wishes for Christmas & the New Year
