Vantage : Cannot switch on Custom Homepage

Hi,

With the Vantage theme, it appears I cannot set a page as home page. It always reverts to showing posts on the front page only.

I activated the Siteorigin Pagebuilder as suggested on Appearance > Home page but this does not change anything. It does create a new page each time (each time it is in Draft status) but it will never show as front page…

Bug?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Rolf,

To confirm, you’re changing your home page by navigating to WP AdminSettingsReading and adjusting the Front Page setting. Correct? If so, please navigate to WP AdminAppearanceHome page and ensure the Status is set to On.

Hi Alex, that’s just what I’m saying: I go to Appearance > Home page try to set the Status to ON. The I Save but the page comes back with the switch back to OFF. It does create a new page automatically but it will NOT accept this new page as front page whatever I try…

    Hi Rolf,

Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look at your setup?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Rolf,

I’ve run a few tests and this appears as though it might be a plugin conflict. Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins. Please test against WP AdminSettingsReading rather than WP AdminAppearanceHome Page.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

Hi Alex, I’ve tried disabling all plugins (except the ones that are network activated) but it does not change the issue.

To compare, there is another site on the same multisite installation with the same plugins (+ woocommerce) and there a front page can be set just fine. I’ve added the siteorigin account to that site as well so you can compare.

You may test stuff if you like, both sites are in development.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Rolf,

Are there any differences to your cache settings on this site and your other site? I ask because I suspect WP AdminSettingsReading may be getting cached. This would explain why your home page is a custom page (although not WP AdminAppearanceHome) and not showing the recent posts list – which is what should be happening based on your settings.

Hi Alex, both sites use the same (Nginx Fast_CGI) caching. They are on the same WordPress multisite installation after all. There is a purge button in the admin at the top bar which clears the site front-end cache. Admin pages themselves are never cached.

On http://aerin.pomclic.fr the settings on Settings > Reading and Appearance > Home both show a page as front page and the front page is a page. There is no conflicting info as far as I can tell. The option can be switched to “show latest posts” without problem and the site front page behaves accordingly.

On http://sensdenosvies.pomclic.fr/ however, the problem occurs: Settings > Reading is set to show the latest posts but cannot be set to show a page as front page. On Appearance > Home the option cannot be switched on (or rather it gets switched off again immediately) … the front page shows one post that exists, starting with “Bienvenue…” It may look like a page but it’s a post.

The site admin would like to set the page called “Accueil” as front page but cannot. Changing the front page settings does not work.

Again: no admin caching and no object caching going on. The server runs PHP 5.6 with Zend Opcache and Nginx with a Fast_CGI static page cache for anonymous front end requests. Once logged in, the cache is bypassed both on front and back end.
