Hi SiteOrigin

Thank you for the great Vantage theme, which I use on a site. I love the builder, though i’d like more customization in the widgets. More on that in another post.

Anywho, I have two problems today:

1.
I have a Danish and an English subfolder via WPML, hence a Danish and an English front page. I had the Danish version and made the English version as a copy (Copy content). The page works, but I also need a Danish and an English slider, as I’m having text on the slides. I have made two slider sets in Meta Slider, and from the two Front Pages I have set the slider in the right menu, but it seems that each Update (save) of the page en either language is overwriting the current “front page slider” for both languages.

What should I do to have a different slider on each language of the front page?

2.
The site logo also contains text, so I need them in two languages, depending on the current site language. How can I set this up?

Best of thanks
SvendK

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Svendk,

    1. Unfortunately, it looks like we never accounted for this instance so this makes it a tad tricky. I’ll log this as a bug but in the meantime, you’ll need to rely on the widget instead. Please set the slider to none in the right menu and then add a new row to the top of the page.

    If the slider is set to full width, please open the row by clicking the wrench icon above it and head over to the row styles sidebar. Open the Layout settings group and set the row layout to full width stretched. Then add a Meta Slider widget and select the relevant slider.

    Sorry about this! :(

    2. This is possible, but you’ll need to recreate the header to do this. Please navigate to WP AdminAppearanceWidgets and add two layout builders to the masthead widget area. Set them up so they show for their relevant language and then set them up to display like they did previously. If you need a way to display an image, use the SiteOrigin Image widget included with the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle.

    Hi Alex

    Thank you for you great reply and for the workaround :-) The slider itself needs to be stretched as well, otherwise it won't stretch. (Under advanced settings for the slider)
    Stretch 100% wide output
    But, before the slide picture was stretched fully and the overlay picture
    (a transparent one with text in it) was not stretched. That is a nice effect, but now, with the widget, the whole slider is stretched, making the text very large on wide screen.

    While writing this email and testing out in WordPress, my two sliders (EN and DK) were emptied! All the single slides was deleted from the sliders.
    I have only added rows to the two frontpages (EN/DK) and added the slider widget to the row, I haven't touched the Meta Slider page.
    I did press the "Edit homepage as page" button, because I couldn't navigate to the english front page, but that shouldn't do it, I guess.
    I recreated both sliders, but are now anxious for it to happen again. The site owner is not a techie like me, so this cannot happen :-/

    Btw – I hate that there is no folder structure in Media. I can see that there is various plugins that can do this, but do you have any recommendations for use together with Vantage, Meta Slider and WPML?

    Med venlig hilsen

    Hi again

    Using the Meta Slider widget, I also get a margin below the navigaion bar.
    How do I get rid of this?
    The page builder rows have a "bottom margin" true/false setting, but I cannot set the menu bottom margin? :-)

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Svendk

    Do you have a public URL where we can take a look at your slider? To clarify, have you embedded the text inside of the image itself? If so, that’s a really tricky situation that I might not be able to assist with as it may be a limitation imposed by this issue.

    I’m not too sure why the sliders may have been deleted – I’ve never come across that before. I’ll include that in the bug report.

    You’ll need to bypass it with CSS. I’ll be able to provide you with CSS once I’ve taken a look at the page itself.

    Regarding media, Enhanced Media Library is the only plugin that comes to mind. While it doesn’t have direct folders, it will allow you to set categories.

    Hello again

    Well, yes and no. It's online on omaharatest.com, but it's a "fake" domain.
    You need to have omaharatest.com point to the IP 77.66.117.58 in the hosts file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts if on a Windows, otherwise whatever is equavalent on a Mac)
    I can make a WordPress user for you, but then please send me a mail outside of this forum – I promise I won't use it for anything else than adding it as a user and having WordPress send you a login.

    To clarify my slider setup: For each slide I pick an image file and then I put as the "text" for the slide a URL for another image file, a transparent
    PNG, that includes a short selling text (but as an image file). I have attached an example – the white is transparent. This setup together used with the normal Page Meta Slider dropdown, creates an effect where the slide picture (the background) stretches 100% automaticallt cropping the picture according to the slides crop setting, but the overlay picture is never stretched beyond the main page content "box".

    Thank you for the slides deleted addition to the bug report. I'm sorry I don't have any more information. I can't imagine what have happened.

    Thank you also for the recommendation for Enhanced Media Library. We'll check it out :-)

    The margin below the navigation bar I have found out is a setting in the front page "Page settings". Even though there is an info box stating that:
    "To use these page settings, please use the Default template selected under
    Page Attribute", which is set to Page Builder Home to be able to use the page builder for the home page, clearing the Masthead Bottom Margin checkbox removes at least most of the margin. I had it remove all of it at some point, just need to play some more with it.

    To sum up an already too long message, these are the problems I have right now:

    1.
    I'd like to have the slider 100% stretched, using the slides crop settings to keep the height constant. As of now, it is not cropped, the image is just full stretch and then the height varies according to window size. A wide window results in a REALLY big slider :-) IF it is possible, it is a combinations of the settings for the builders row settings, the widget settings and the slider settings.

    2.
    New problem. My english slide deck wont update. If I change anything, be it the slide order or the text for a slide, it is not update on the web page.
    I'm using Ctrl+F5 to make sure no cache is used. Do you have any ideas?

    Hi again

    I've added a test page showing the slider effect when using the Page Meta
    Slider option for a page (instead of a widget).
    http://omaharatest.com/da/test (please note, the page is hidden from the nav bar on purpose)

    Background image is stretched and cropped so it keeps the height, but the text (which in our case is a link to an image, which is shown instead of the text) is only page content wide. This is what we would like, if it could happen through the widget option, as the widget option is the only one working in multiple languages using WPML :-)

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Svendk,

    Sorry for the delay.

    1. Please click the wrench icon above the row that houses the meta slider you added. Head over to the widget styles sidebar and open the Layout settings group. Set the row layout to full-width stretch. How does that look?

    2. Hm, I’m not too sure why this may be happening – I’ve never come across it before. Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look?

    3. Regarding your test page. Hm, maybe you’re actually after the SiteOrigin Hero widget? Give this video a watch. The SiteOrigin Hero widget is included with the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle. Once installed, please navigate to WP AdminPluginsSiteOrigin Widgets and activate the hero Image widget.

    4. Regarding the template comment (ie. spacing on the home page), please navigate to WP AdminAppearanceCustom CSS and add the following CSS:

    .home #main.site-main {
    	padding-top: 0;
    }

    That should remove the default content spacing on your homepage, regardless of the template being used.

    You might also need to install the SiteOrigin CSS Editor.

    Hello and happe new year.I'm sorry for the delay and thanks again for your replies and your help.

    1. If I have the slider as a *widget in a row* and make the row *f**ull-width stretch*, while the Meta Slider is also 100% wide output (in Adv.
    settings), then the whole slider is stretched to the sides of the browser –
    but it is stretched proportionally, so it gets very large/tall, like a hero image. See first screenshot attached. It's supposed to be a wide-but-not-that-tall banner :-) We would like the effect of the Page-set
    MetaSlider, seen in thirds screenshot.
    1b. Also,

    2. Somehow it just started working again?! Somewhing is quite odd…The slider was also emptied one day, so I had to add the slides again. And the last thing is that slides was dublicated – not all of them, but some. My client, the owner of the site, is easily disturbed by such things, as she is not tech savvy. I can see on the Meta Slider changelog for the last update are further developing the pluging and have a number of my personal annoyances going away soon, which is nice.

    3. I will try and experiment with the Hero Widget. It can certainly make some stuff easier, as I (or even my client) can set the text and a button for the slider, instead of this hacky stuff we're doing right now with making a transparent image with text on it in Photoshop and using this
    'image' as overlay picture in Meta Slider. Quite a tedious task for my client. It's just if the Hero Widget can go fully stretched, with the "body content" staying inside of the page "body" but still stretching the background full-width. That's what we're after. We want it to follow the nav bar to the sides.

    4. If I set the row to *full-width* or *full-width stretch*, the gap is there, see second screenshot. But if the row is *Standard* there is no margin on top Might this be a bug? Can I use your css to handle this until this is fixed (if it is a bug)

    I will create a WordPress user for you with the details given in the private comment. Thank you. Remember, that to see the fake domain omaharatest.com you need to put this in the hosts file (
    C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts if on a Windows):
    * 77.66.117.58 omaharatest.com <http://omaharatest.com>*

    Hello again

    When I look at the thread:
    Thread: Using Vantage, Meta Slider and WPML at the same time

    it doesn't seem like the attached screenshots is included. I will try and include them in another way here, I don't know if it works.

    Nope. A third way, then…

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Svendk,

    Ah, I understand what you’re after now – thank you for the screenshots.

    3. That’s an interesting idea – I’m going to log it as a feature request as, unfortunately, it’s not currently possible.

    It’s possible without a slider however by applying a background to a full width (not stretched) row. It would appear something like this.

    4. That’s actually intentional. When row styles are applied, padding 50px (total) of vertical padding is applied to the row also. To remove it, simply add the following CSS to WP Admin > Apperance > Custo mCSS:

    .layout-full .panel-row-style.panel-row-style-wide-grey, .layout-full .panel-row-style.panel-row-style-full-width, .layout-full.panels-style-force-full .panel-row-style {
        padding-top: 0;
        padding-bottom: 0;
    }
