Upgrading Page Builder could overwrite/lose current pages

Hi, our website was built by a developer 3 years ago, and features a very lite version of Page Builder compared to what you have now: it’s a column of Blocks, the Template Canvas column, and Template Controls in the 3rd column.

It came with the Kause theme, and was used to create the front page of the site, as well as a few other pages. It doesn’t appear as an option on the Page and Post editor (Visual, Text, Page Builder).

I would like to install Page Builder from the admin’s Add New Plugins/Popular category, but worry that it would replace our site’s current page setup, and we would then lose all the pages that were built by this older version.

And does this latest version feature a 100% page width setting for Parallax images?

Thanks for your time.

    Hi Bill,

To clarify, what version of SiteOrigin Page Builder are you currently using?

I would recommend creating a staging site and updating the plugin there to see how things go. I personally recommend using Duplicator or All-in-One WP Migration to do this. Your hosting provider may also have the ability to do this so consider checking with them to see if this is possible.

    Yes. :)

    Hi Alex,

Thanks for your reply. The version of Page Builder on our site was bundled with the Kause theme, and isn’t even listed in the Plugins section: it’s listed in the admin right below Kause Settings with a gear dashicon. The Kause theme is version 1.0 from 3 years ago.

Ideally I would like to install the plugin to duplicate & take over the setup for the front page, etc., and then discontinue the old edition. But would have to see if a Kause upgrade would include the latest version of Page Builder, or if a Page Builder plugin could take over the current setup after recreating the blocks/widgets setup for a page.

    Thanks,

    Bill

    Hi Bill,

Based on what you just said, I don’t think the page builder Kause includes is the same as SiteOrigin Page Builder. To clarify, is there a specific reason you suspect it’s the same plugin? Can you send me a screenshot of what the Page Builder editor looks like? Please note that we’re currently unable to process attachments so you’ll need to upload the image to a third party site like vgy.me or imgur.

    Hi Bill,

Unfortunately, based on the screenshot it’s very unlikely you’ll be able to switch to SiteOrigin Page Builder without having to remake each of the pages. I’m very sorry about this. :(
