My web host tried to update my site to PHP 8.1 and had to roll back to an older version due to an error returned by the Unwind theme. The specific error was:
Permission denied PHP Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function create_function()
I did some searching and apparently create_function() is no longer exists in PHP 8+.
I have Unwind version 1.9.7 installed. I don’t see any pending updates available in WordPress, and I couldn’t see a version number on the theme page here on the site – is there a way to identify for sure whether I have the latest version? And if the one I have is the latest version, is there any chance of a future update at some point for PHP 8 compatibility? I only have a few months before I have to either update to PHP 8.1 or start being charged for legacy support for the older version.
Any advice is appreciated – thanks!
Hi Daisy
Thanks for getting in touch.
Kindly request the complete error read out. The complete error will include a file path.
Hi Andrew,
Sorry, I think this turned out to be something unfortunate that I did in a child theme file. I thought all I had added was some formatting stuff in style.css and extra text in footer.php (since that’s really all I’m qualified to mess around with these days without breaking things!) but I just discovered I also had a functions.php in my child them, and guess what I found in there? A create_function() doing something that I can’t fully remember the point of (which can’t have been that important since nothing broke when I commented it out). I still have the same errors after updating to PHP 8.1 with that out of the way, I’ll report back. Sorry about that!
Sorry, that last line should have said *if* I still have the same errors after updating to 8.1, I’ll report back :)
Hi Daisy
Thanks for your feedback; I’m glad to hear you’ve made progress :)
Kind regards
Andrew
