Trouble using The Events Calendar

Hi,
Could somebody help me please? I’m a novice but helped a friend build his site using the SiteOrigin Current theme which he really likes.

However for some reason we can’t get The Events Calendar to work on the events page as the calendar appears blank despite there being lots of entries being made already. We also get the following error message

The Post “Events” uses the “/events” slug: the Events Calendar plugin will show its calendar in place of the page.

Edit the Post slug or edit Events settings.

I imagine that it’s a problem with the link somewhere which may be really simple but is was above my capabilities.Can anyone help me please?

    Thanks for posting.

    Try temporarily deactivating all SiteOrigin plugins and switch to a default theme like Twenty Nineteen. Does the issue persist? If so, it probably isn’t related to a SiteOrigin product. In that case, it would be best to reach out to Events Calendar authors for assistance.

    Thanks very much for responding so quickly, I appreciate it.
    I've tried what you suggested and the problem remains so I guess that the issue lies elsewhere. I'll try again with Events Calandar to see if they can help
