top toolbar doesn’t show Live Editor option for Blocks built page

Is there a setting that can make the page have that Live Editor option show in the toolbar at the top in black? The page in question is: http://ivanrest.3cstudio.com/pastor-search/ — on a demo page for the theme: http://ivanrest.3cstudio.com/features/ the Live Editor option is next to Edit Page in that top black toolbar, but the Edit area is the Classic Editor setup with: Layout Options > Page Builder. When I go to the Edit Page for the Blocks page, and change the Layout Options from > Default to > Page Builder, and Save/Update that page, all content disappears and there is still no Live Editor option on the front-end for that page. Please advise?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi 3cstudio

    Thanks for reaching out.

I don’t think we’ll be adding the Live Editor top bar shortcut to the Block Editor. It’s possible to insert more than one or SiteOrigin Layout Block into the Block Editor, or none. The link makes sense on a Page Builder page in the Classic Editor, I’m not sure it makes as much sense in the Block Editor. The link is however available within each SiteOrigin Layout Block in the Block Editor.

Are you asking how to migrate a Page Builder page from the Classic Editor to the Block Editor? If so, that can be done manually by downloading the page export JSON file from LayoutsImport/ExportDownload Layout within Page Builder.

Thanks Andrew — I do see that icon for Live Editor in the Block Editor, so that will suffice.

    Hi, I Work Here

Super, glad that helps a bit. The History and Live Editor was added to the Layout Block in the most recent Page Builder release, 2.11.1.

If questions arise in the future, please, let us know.

    Cheers for now :)

Andrew, quick question for when you have a moment to respond:
I used the About Simple option in prebuilt Layouts for: http://ivanrest.3cstudio.com/outreach/… my question is, why is the header/hero image constrained, when the sample shows it full-width? I couldn’t find anything that would extend that image full-width like the example. Or is that a limitation based on the theme I’m using? I didn’t think it was because when I setup a New Page, that content is 100% width by Default. Anything that you can spot when you Inspect that page, or no?
Thanks in advance for fielding my question!

    Hi, I Work Here

Hi Steve, thanks for your message. Please, could you try editing the row in question by clicking the wrench icon far right. In the Layout section, is there any change if you select Full Width Stretched?

    I don’t see that option… :-/

    Hi, I Work Here

Please, try temporarily switching to a default theme like Twenty Twenty. That’ll let you check if your theme is removing the option.

Thanks for the fast response — it is indeed present in Twenty Twenty! I switched it to Full Width Stretched, saved that change in the Live Editor, but it was not retained, unfortunately. I’ll see what the theme author can tell me (if anything). Thanks again!

I have another question if you don’t mind? I find that Image blocks’ links do not have an option to Open a New Tab/Window, which would be key on: http://ivanrest.3cstudio.com/resources/ — is that possibly an issue with the theme as well? I’m about to try it in Twenty Twenty, but thought I would pick your brain on that topic.

    Thanks so much.

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for checking. Please, check with the theme author. I’m sure they’ll be able to explain why the option was removed and hopefully, assist from there.

The SiteOrigin Image widget offers the option to open links in a new tab. You can also use the Editor widget to insert media, it’ll have that as an option. Perhaps give one of those two a try?

Ah yes, thanks for the reminder — the client was attempting to DIY those image links and used the standard Image block instead of the S.O. Image widget. :) Thanks again!

    Hi, I Work Here

Super, glad to hear that helped. The client could also use the SiteOrigin Editor widgetAdd Media button in the future, that’s another option.

Hi Andrew, I have another question, but wondered if I should start a new thread, or if I could continue this one for continuity’s sake? Please let me know — I’m experiencing an “Attempt Block Recovery” issue every time I leave a page after Editing: https://fl.3cstudio.com/weekly-especials/ — it’s a 50/50 SiteOrigin Row with with a block on each half that are both: SiteOrigin Editor blocks. I can’t have the client having to go through that “recovery” steps each time they edit the page…?

Also, I would like to have them go to an Edit page in “Edit layout” view, rather than “Preview layout” view… it’s tough to see what you have to Edit and not always easy to spot that you have to click the eyeball or pencil icon to change to the other view/mode. Does that make sense or no? I just want it to return to that Page in Edit layout mode instead of defaulting to Preview layout mode.

Let me know on these two items? Thanks so much!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Steve

We’re doing final testing on the next Page Builder release that should resolve the block data validation issue. You can try the release version now, it’s here https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/siteorigin-panels.2.11.3.zip. To give it a try, deactivate and delete Page Builder, instal the ZIP file from PluginsAdd NewUpload Plugin.

I didn’t find a way to default blocks to edit mode when I last checked. I’ll check again and come back to you.

    Thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

Apologies, for the edit/preview issue, please, try going to SettingsPage Builder and open the General tab. Set Layout Block Default Mode to Edit.

  15. 4 years, 6 days ago 3cstudio

Thank you for the speedy response on both issues. Unfortunately, I have installed v2.11.3 now and the problem persists, stating I should “Attempt Block Recovery” and the Layout Block Default Mode shows as Preview instead Edit still, even after changing it to Edit and Save-ing the change. Would it be helpful if I granted SiteOrigin access to the site itself to see it from the wp-admin perspective? I don’t know how SiteOrigin does troubleshooting and whether you allow for “case study” example site issues, but I’m happy to help if need be. I also have screenshots I can send… let me know.

I’m sure SiteOrigin (like many WP developers) has been scrambling to put fixes on things that WP 5.5 introduced or discontinued? :-o

    Thanks again,
    Steve

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Steve

    Thanks for testing.

Sorry, I forgot to mention, after recovering the block, please, edit the block, make any small change and then save. Does the issue persist?

Please, let me know about the above and we’ll take it from there and then work on the preview issue.

If you’d like to send us screenshots, imgur.com is one option or uploaded to Drive/Dropbox for more control.

That worked! One small edit and an Update, and it showed properly once again in the Edit page area, AND was in the Edit mode (instead of Preview). Many thanks!
