    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi dales

    Thanks for reaching out.

A quick check; all WordPress themes completely overwrite their own folder during theme updates. If you make changes via Appearance > Editor without using a child theme and we push a Vantage update which you run, all changes will be lost.

For CSS changes, you can use Appearance > Custom CSS: https://siteorigin.com/basics/modifying-theme-design-with-custom-css/

For other theme file changes, you can use a child theme: Page: Child Themes

Appearance > Editor should be present. I’ve never seen it disappear. To troubleshoot this, you might start by deactivating all plugins not made by SiteOrigin. If the Editor returns, re-enable your plugins one by one, checking the problem after each activation.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi dales

The code you’d like to change shouldn’t be edited via Appearance > Editor. Appearance > Editor shouldn’t be used at all. Not unless you have a child theme activated. Please, let me know if I can elaborate on my explanation of this above.

I’ve made the requested change for you in the following child theme:

    https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/vantage-child-ie-edge.zip

To use this child theme, download the ZIP and install from Appearance > Themes > Add New > Upload Theme.

Activating a child theme won’t cause any data loss. It will cause the settings at Appearance > Menus > Menu Locations and Appearance > Customize > Theme Design to reset. This is, unfortunately, expected. If you’d like to use the child theme, these settings would need to be re-applied.

    Hi, I Work Here

Super :) Glad to hear that helped.

The same would apply for site verification. Ideally we’d use a plugin like Header and Footer Scripts to add the verification: https://wordpress.org/plugins/header-and-footer-scripts/. If you use WordPress SEO plugin it has a few fields to help verify Google, Bing etc.

To confirm, it’s best to not use the Editor at all.

But, I hear you, it’s strange that it’s not showing up. It’s possible the Editor has been deactivated from the WordPress wp-config.php file. To check this, use FTP or your Hosting File Manager and navigate to the WordPress root folder on your server. Locate wp-config.php and download the file to your desktop. For now, don’t edit or upload. Check if the following line is visible:

    define('DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT', true);

    Hi, I Work Here

    For sure :)

Try going to Appearance > Theme Settings > General, there is a setting to enqueue theme JavaScript in the footer. Give that a go. If that doesn’t help you can use a performance plugin like W3 Total Cache.

If possible, try using Private Replies for when you need to send private info. like your site’s URL etc. Keeping the forums readable helps other users learn from past questions. Thanks for your help.
