Testimonial Widget Edits Can’t be Saved

I am having problem adding new Testimonials to the SiteOrigin Testimonial Widget. I can type in the new info, click Done. When I save the page, none of the new info is saved. When I get back into the widget, at the top of the Testimonial Widget it says “There’s a newer version of this widget content available”. When I click restore, the new info I typed in previously came back on. When I click Done, the cycle starts again where none of the new info is saved.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi

Thanks for posting, sorry to hear about the hassle.

After saving the page, have you checked the site front-end? Is the new content showing on the front-end of the site?

Please, check DashboardUpdates, ensure there are no pending SiteOrigin updates, if there are, please run them.

Next, try the plugin conflict test below and see if that helps in establishing a working baseline, the test is as follows:

This sounds like it could be a plugin conflict issue. Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

Hi, tried all the steps recommended but the issue is still there. Not able to find which plugin is in conflict.

The site is using Vantage Premium which is a SiteOrigin theme.

    Any other solutions?

    Hi, I Work Here

Hi. Was there a working baseline? Did the issue resolve with all non-SiteOrigin plugins deactivated?

The issue did not resolve after deactivating non-SiteOrigin plugins.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Thanks for the update.

    Things you could try next:

    1. Does the issue persist with all non-SiteOrigin plugins deactivated AND a default theme like Twenty Seventeen enabled?

    2. Where are you adding the widget? Are you adding it into Page Builder by SiteOrigin or another Page Builder? Try adding the widget somewhere different and see if that matters. So if you’ve been adding the widget to a Page Builder, does the issue persist if you add the widget into a theme widget area at AppearanceWidgets?

    Replies to your questions:
    1. If i change it to a default theme, I don’t have SiteOrigin Testimonial widget to update. There is no issue as I can’t use it.

    2. The “”SiteOrigin Editor – Testimonials” is being added to Page Builder by SiteOrigin on a page. When I try adding the widget to another post, it can save.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Thanks

The SiteOrigin Testimonials widget is part of the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle, it isn’t part of a theme. It should be available using Twenty Seventeen or any other theme.

Please, can you send a link to the page you’re working on?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Thanks

One option is to try adding a new Testimonials widget below the existing Testimonials widget. If the problem doesn’t persist in the new widget it might be worth copying your content over and starting with a new widget.

I tried this a week ago when the problem started and it didn’t work.
I tried it again as suggested. I was able to save the new widget for the first time. The second time when I edit it, it doesn’t save. The same problem happens again.

    Hi, I Work Here

It might be worth activating WP_DEBUG and WP_DEBUG_LOG in your WordPress wp-config.php file. https://codex.wordpress.org/WP_DEBUG. Once both are activated, recreate the error. There should then be a log file called debug.log in your /wp-content/ folder. The log might provide a distinct error that could be helpful.

If this issue is limited to the Testimonials widget, you could also try the Livemesh Testimonials widget to see if the same issue persist: https://wordpress.org/plugins/livemesh-siteorigin-widgets/.
