Spanning widgets

Hi there,

First up, thank you so much for such a big help with your themes and the page editor. These are fantastic.

Now, I have created a row which has been subdivided into four columns in a one page site.
I just need a Headline widget on top that spans across all four columns. When I create the headline widget, it is dropped into one of the four columns. I would rather the Headline widget ‘span’ across the four columns within the SAME row and not on different rows.

Could you help point me out to how I can achieve that?

I’m guessing I may have to resort to using css (or css editor) but then I worried it may throw everything off.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

Nick

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Nick,

Hm. Could you try moving the headline widget into a dedicated row? If that doesn’t help, I’m not too sure I’m following. :( Could you send me a screenshot of your Page Builder layout? Also, do you have a public URL where we can take a look at what’s going on? If you need to keep this URL private from other users, just select “Private Reply” on the bottom right of the comment box.

    Hi Alex,

Sorry for not replying to this thread earlier. I found a solution – a workaround, which seems to work ok so far, albeit a bit tedious . I used the layout builder widget to achieve that.

Sorry if I was not too clear in my earlier post. Let me explain.
When you create a row, it is given the number of columns that you decide upon, be it two or three, according to your requirements, right. Being a one-page site, I used the row ID’s as unique identifiers for different sections/categories which form the basis for my main menus.

What made it tricky for me was my use of headlines for each section (About Us, Our Services, Contact Us, etc). The headline of each section of course had to span the entire width of the page. That is no problem for single column rows, for example, in the “About Us” section I have the Headline widget followed by the Editor widget all on a single-column row. Easy.

The problem begins when I have a multi-column row for one section. For instance, another category I have is called “Projects”, which lists our four key project sites. For this I decided to have a four-column row. If I insert the Headline widget (“Our Projects”) now it will be inserted into the first of the four columns. I don’t want that. I need this Headline widget to span across the four columns to stretch across the width of the entire page. An alternative option was to have a separate row created for the Headline widget alone but the space between the rows would be uneven. I wanted consistency all throughout.

This was the dilemma I was facing when I posted my query above.

Then I arrived at the solution that I could use nested rows. On the surface all rows would be single column rows, which had the the Headline widget on top and the Layout Builder widget. Within the Layout Builder widget I inserted rows with the desired number of columns in it, and it works just perfect.

I am posting this here too just so that if anyone else runs into this blockage then it can help them too I suppose.

Many thanks once again for the wonderful themes and the support.

    Nick
